Struggles In Moorhead Continue for Golden Eagle Volleyball as they Fall in Four Sets to MSUM

Moorhead, Minn. – Following a pair of tough matches to open the home and conference schedule, Minnesota Crookston volleyball went back on the road for an NSIC match with Minnesota State Moorhead.

MSUM would win the first two sets and the fourth set to win the match in four sets (19-25, 18-25, 26-24, 13-25).

Minnesota Crookston falls to 6-5 on the season and 0-3 in the NSIC.
Set One
Minnesota Crookston would jump out to a quick 6-3 lead, following a kill from Carizma Muth (R-So., OH, Randolph, Wis.).

The Dragons would score the next seven points, but Ellery Ehresmann (Fr., S, Albany, Minn.) would collect a kill to end the run.

MSUM would extend their lead to 12-7, but Minnesota Crookston would answer with three straight, highlighted by a kill from Emma Malek (Jr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.).

MSUM would continue to extend their lead and make it 18-13, but Lexi Scharold (So., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) would collect a kill to cut the lead to just two at 18-16.

MSUM would pull away and win the first set by six.

Set Two
It would be another good start for the maroon and gold, who would trail by three early on but would score five in a row, capped off by an Ehresmann ace.

The Dragons would continue to hit well in the second set and would pull away and win the all important second set for a 2-0 match lead.

Scharold would lead the way through two sets with five kills on 11 total attacks.

Set Three
The Golden Eagles would move out to another fast start in the start, taking their largest lead of the match at four.

Once again, MSUM would go on another large run and tie the game at seven.

The set would go back-and-forth and would see a number of ties at 15, 17, 18 and 19.

The nail-biting set would continue. Minnesota Crookston would earn set point one following an attacking error, but would make it 25-24 on a kill from Scharold, who continued her fantastic match.

Minnesota Crookston would send the match to a fourth set following a kill from Madison Carsten (Jr., OH, Wadena, Minn.).

Carsten added seven kills in that set and was key to the Golden Eagles extending the match.

There were a whopping 15 ties in the third set.
Set Four
The fourth set would not be as fast as a start for the Golden Eagles, who would start slow and trail 12-3, early on.

Trailing early, the Golden Eagles would try and chip away, but it would be too little, too late, as the Dragons would win the set and the match.

Individual Stats
Carsten led the way with 13 kills on 59 total attacks and finished with another double-double, her ninth on the season, finishing with 11 digs. Scharold added 10 kills, as did Muth, who also finished with a season watermark of 17 digs.

Ehresmann and Dana Melby (R-Sr., S, Gonvick, Minn.) combined for 36 total assists in the match.
