Golden Eagle volleyball is back on the road this week for a three-match road trip, starting on Tuesday as they head to Moorhead to take on MSU Moorhead. The Dragons and Golden Eagles are travel partners, so this will be the first of two meetings this season, with the next meeting coming in Crookston later this season.
·
FAMILIAR FOE. The Golden Eagles will look to get back to their winning ways this Tuesday inside Nemzek Hall on the campus of MSU Moorhead. These two programs are quite familiar with each other. The Golden Eagles and Dragons have met every year, dating back to 2001. In several years, they have played twice a year. The Dragons have controlled the series, winning 33 of the 37 matches between the two, including 17 of 18 in Moorhead. The Golden Eagles last win in Moorhead came the day before Halloween in 2004. The maroon and gold will look to change the script on Tuesday.
·
DEALING. That's the theme for
Madison Carsten this season. Simply put, she's been phenomenal and then some. The junior from Wadena continued that this past weekend, especially on Saturday, when she finished with 16 kills on 36 total attacks, while also adding five digs. Carsten now has eight matches with more than 10 kills on the year, and she will look to continue her outstanding start to the year tomorrow on the road.
·
DOUBLE DIGIT DIGS. It's become commonplace that
Kailee Waasdorp will lead the maroon and gold in digs on a match-to-match basis. For the most part, that is true. What else is true is the fact that she will cross the 10 digs barrier quickly in a match. Dating back to last season, Waasdorp has more than 10 digs in 19 straight matches and in 32 of her last 33 matches. Waasdorp has been sensational.
·
LONG ROAD TRIPS. The Golden Eagles have hit the road for many, many miles already this season and that will continue in NSIC play. This week, the Golden Eagles will play three matches all on the road this weekend and then later this season, will hit the road for two weekends in a row and four matches. Minnesota Crookston will look to be the road warriors this season.
Series Look vs the Dragons
MSUM is 33-4 against the Golden Eagles all-time and 17-1 in Moorhead.

MSU MOORHEAD. The Dragons are off to a good start this season, heading into the match with the Golden Eagles at 7-3 and 1-1 in the NSIC, including taking a set from Wayne State College their last time out on Saturday. Much like the Golden Eagles, the Dragons also started out 5-0 on the year.
MULTIPLE WAYS TO SCORE. Brielle Riess has been a key cog in the offensive output this season for the Dragons. MSUM has leaned on Riess to score and score in multiple ways this year. The sophomore from Marshall, Minn., is second on her team with 108 kills and leads the team in both service aces (21) and service errors (24). Riess also has six blocks on the season, as well.
BLOCK PARTY. Although the Dragons might not rank highly in the Northern Sun in terms of blocks, it's a big part of their success. The Dragons rank just 10
th in the NSIC in blocks per set and have 66 team blocks on the year, 17 more than their opponents this season. Often, the Dragons will out block their opponents.
