Golden Eagles Earn 5-1 Victory Over Senators Saturday

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball looked to the reliable arm of Josh Dykhoff (Jr., RHP/DH, Wadena, Minn.) and key hits to defeat Davis & Elkins College 5-1 Saturday, March 8 at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla.
 

The Golden Eagles improved to 6-7 (3-1 NSIC) with Saturday's win in Florida. Minnesota Crookston is 2-4 during a challenging stint in the Sunshine State. The Senators dropped to 1-9 with the victory for the U of M Crookston. Minnesota Crookston is 4-0 all-time against Davis & Elkins.

 

Dykhoff has been a standout on the mound for Minnesota Crookston. He is an unblemished 3-0, with a 2.05 ERA. Dykhoff has struck out 23 this season, with just one walk. Saturday, he tossed five innings. Dykhoff struck out six, and walked one. He allowed one run, on four hits. Jacob Mathiason (R-Sr., RHP, Rockford, Minn.) had a strong outing, going 1.2 innings and allowing no runs, with two strikeouts, and two walks. Isaac Roers (R-Jr., RHP, Stacy, Minn.) went 1.1 innings, allowing no runs, with two strikeouts. Max Weber (R-Sr., RHP, St. Paul, Minn.) threw a scoreless 0.2 innings, before Nate Grafsgaard (R-Sr., RHP, Devils Lake, N.D.) came on for the final out, and the save.

 

The loss for the Senators went to Cooper Blackburn, who allowed two earned runs, on three hits. Blackburn went 6.2 innings.

 

The Golden Eagles finished with five hits. Caden Kappes (So., IF, Wahpeton, N.D.) was 2-of-3, with an RBI, and a run scored. Americo Sculati (R-Jr., OF, Golden Valley, Minn.) went 2-of-4, with an RBI, and two runs scored. Sculati hit his third home run of the season. Dylan Debilzen (Fr., OF, Parkers Prairie, Minn.) finished 1-of-4.

 

Minnesota Crookston broke through for two runs in the bottom of the second. Kobe Senn (Sr., IF, Fargo, N.D.) scored on a Brock Larsen (R-Jr., C/1B, Blaine, Minn.) groundout. The Golden Eagles moved the lead to 2-0 when Kappes singled to left field, scoring Sculati.

 

Davis & Elkins trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the third when Larry Kusan scored on a Zach Calef-Boring groundout. 

 

Minnesota Crookston pushed their advantage to 3-1 when Kappes scored when Sawyer Satrom (Sr., IF, Portland, N.D.) reached on an error. The Golden Eagles pushed the advantage to 4-1 when Satrom scored on a Debilzen single to right field.

 

The Golden Eagles took a 5-1 advantage on Sculati's solo shot over the left field fence. The senators put two on in the top of the ninth, but Weber pitched out of the jam to preserve the 5-1 victory.

 

Minnesota Crookston concludes their Sunshine State excursion with an 8:15 a.m. C.T. game with Assumption University in Auburndale, Fla.
