Box Score SAINT GEORGE, Kan. - The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team fell 7-3 to the University of Sioux Falls in the series finale Sunday, March 16 at Rock Creek High School in Saint George, Kan.
Minnesota Crookston dropped to 7-11 (4-4 NSIC) with Sunday's loss. The Golden Eagles lost the series 3-1 to USF. Sioux Falls leads the series 4-1 in the last five games. USF improved to 7-15 (3-5 NSIC) with the series win in Kansas.
Isaac Wensloff (Jr., RHP, Roseau, Minn.) started Sunday's tilt, tossing 4.1 innings, and allowing three runs, on four hits. Isaac Wensloff struck out two, and walked two. Isaac Roers (R-Jr., RHP, Stacy, Minn.) tossed 1.2 frames, allowing three runs, on six hits. Caden Edwards (R-Sr., LHP, Duluth, Minn.) allowed one run in 0.2 innings. Max Weber (R-Sr., RHP, St. Paul, Minn.) got two outs, allowing no runs, on one hit. Joey Connelly (Jr., LHP, Eden Prairie, Minn.) pitched a scoreless 0.2 innings.
Jake Pruchniak got the win, pitching seven innings. He allowed three runs, on seven hits. Pruchniak struck out five, and didn't post a walk. Owen Weadge pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
Minnesota Crookston was guided by Connor Bushbaum (R-Jr., OF, Saginaw, Minn.), who went 2-of-4, with a run scored. Josh Dykhoff (Jr., DH, Wadena, Minn.) was 1-of-3, with two RBIs, and a run scored. Kobe Senn (Sr., IF, Fargo, N.D.) finished 1-of-2.
Sioux Falls broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth. William Edwards singled to left field, scoring Ryan Gouldin. USF pushed the lead to 2-0 with a Noah Christenson sacrifice fly, plating William Edwards. The Cougars widened the gap to 3-0 when Ben Serie notched a sacrifice fly, bringing in Casey Sehr.
The Golden Eagles trimmed the deficit to 3-2 when Dykhoff knocked out his fourth home run of the season, driving in Dykhoff, and Bushbaum.
USF extended their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh with a Dominic Vogel double, scoring Christenson. Sioux Falls widened the gap to 6-2 with a Serie single, scoring Dominic Vogel, and Nolan Drossel. Sioux Falls used a William Edwards single to drive in Frank Vogel to make it 7-2. Weber got a Sehr fly out to escape the inning.
Minnesota Crookston cut the USF advantage to 7-3 with a pinch-hit home run from Brock Larsen (R-Jr., C/1B, Blaine, Minn.), his second of the slate. With two outs, Minnesota Crookston loaded the bases after Dykhoff was walked, Sculati reached on an error, and Aaron Wensloff reached on four balls. Weadge struck out Satrom to keep the score 7-3 in favor of the Cougars.
Sioux Falls was retired quickly in the bottom of the eighth giving Minnesota Crookston's one last chance to respond in the top of the ninth. Kodi Miller walked to lead off the stanza for the Golden Eagles. Weadge took out the next three batters to preserve the 7-3 victory.
