Topeka, Kan. – Minnesota Crookston was back at it on Monday afternoon into the evening, as they took on two more MIAA schools in Fort Hays State and host school, Washburn.
In game one, the Tigers would strike for five third inning runs, enough to upend the Golden Eagles, 9-1, in six innings.
Game two would be a pitching duel with Washburn, as the Ichabods would win, 2-1.
Game One
Riley Blake (Fr., P/OF, Las Vegas, Nev.) would earn the start for the second consecutive game and would allow a run in the bottom of the first.
Gabrielle Gomez (Fr., P/1B, Lakewood, Calif.) would pitch an inning and would give up three runs in the top of the third. All-in-all, the maroon and gold would allow five runs in the bottom half of the third.
As has been their identity this season, the Golden Eagles would try and chip away at an early deficit.
Rayna French (So., C, La Salle, Manitoba) would continue her outstanding weekend with an RBI sacrifice fly, scoring
Hannah Trzinski (Fr., P/1B, Stevens Point, Wis.), cutting the deficit to 6-1.
From that point, FHSU would score three runs in a row for the 9-1 win.
The Golden Eagles finished with five hits as a team. Trzinski, Blake and French each had one, as did
Emilee Haggadone (Jr., C, Lincoln, Neb.) and
Jocelyn Hernandez (Fr., OF, Tracy, Calif.).
Blake fell to 1-3 in the circle.
Game Two
Alexa Guilford (Jr., P, Crystal City, Manitoba) would come in for relief of Trzinski and was outstanding, giving up just one unearned run in 3.2 innings of work. That run would come in the bottom of the second.
The 'Bods would strike again in the bottom of the fifth, but Trzinski would leave the bases loaded.
Minnesota Crookston would answer.
Haley Koch (Sr., C, Mondamin, Iowa) would earn a one out single and she would advance to third on back-to-back singles from Trzinski and Madison Yandle (Fr., SS, Lakeville, Minn.). Koch would score on a walk by French, her fourth RBI of the weekend.
The Golden Eagles would leave the bases loaded.
In the top of the seventh, down a run,
Sophie Juntunen (Jr., 1B, St. Michael, Minn.) would lead off the inning with a single, but she would get as far as second base, as the Golden Eagles would strand the tying run 120 feet away from home.
Minnesota Crookston collected six hits, led by Trzinski, who finished with two hits.
Trzinski fell to 0-2 in the circle.
