Box Score 2 TURLOCK, Calif. - The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team picked up a Sunday split Sunday, February 16 at Warrior Baseball Field in Turlock, Calif. The Golden Eagles fell in extra innings 3-2, and picked up a 9-4 victory in the second tilt.
Minnesota Crookston improved to 1-2 with the split, while Stanislaus State moved to 5-5.
Game One
Minnesota Crookston dropped the first game as Stanislaus State picked up a walk-off extra inning victory 3-2. The Warriors won on an Arthur Navarette, Jr. infield single to drive in Jackson Brooks.
Josh Dykhoff (Jr., RHP/DH, Wadena, Minn.) started the game and went four innings, allowing no runs, on two hits. Dykhoff struck out four, and had zero walks. Jake Jaroszewski (Fr., LHP, Fargo, N.D.) made his collegiate debut, tossing one inning. Jaroszewski allowed two runs, on one hit in an inning of work. Jaxson Bennett (R-So., RHP, Saginaw, Minn.) went two innings, allowing no runs on two hits. Nate Grafsgaard (R-Sr., RHP, Devils Lake, N.D.) tossed two innings, striking out three, and walking two. Jacob Mathiason (R-Sr., RHP, Rockford, Minn.) suffered the loss, allowing one run, in 0.1 innings.
Zach Geiss earned the victory in 0.1 innings, moving to 2-0. Patrick Sweeney started the tilt, allowing two runs, on four hits. Caleb Bertoncini threw three scoreless innings, as did Noah Chelberg.
The Golden Eagles notched six hits in the first game. Americo Sculati (R-Jr., OF, Golden Valley, Minn.) went 2-of-4, with a walk. Brock Larsen (R-Jr., C/1B, Blaine, Minn.) went 1-of-3, with a run scored. Sawyer Satrom (R-Sr., IF, Fargo, N.D.) went 1-of-5, with an RBI. Dylan Debilzen (Fr., OF, Parkers Prairie, Minn.), and Kobe Senn (R-Jr., IF, Fargo, N.D.) each also had hits.
Navarette went 2-of-3, with an RBI to guide the Warriors. Ryan Leonesio went 2-of-3, with an RBI. Alex Solis finished 2-of-5, while Robert Valdivia was 1-of-3, with an RBI.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the top of the second. Aaron Wensloff (So., IF, Roseau, Minn.) scored on a Caden Kappes (So., IF, Wahpeton, N.D.) sacrifice fly. The Golden Eagles pushed the lead to 2-0 when Satrom singled in Larsen.
The Golden Eagles had a chance in the top of the fifth, but left the bases loaded. Stanislaus State countered in the bottom of the fifth to tie the tilt. A Leonesio single plated Murphy to cut the deficit to 2-1, while Baker scored on a Valdivia groundout to tie the game
Both teams continued to strand runners, forcing extra innings. The Warriors came through in the bottom of the 10th for the walk-off win as Navaratte singled in Brooks to send Stanislaus State to a 3-2 victory.
Game Two
Minnesota Crookston picked up a 9-4 victory over the Warriors paced by two home runs from Satrom.
Kayden Camacho picked up the win for Minnesota Crookston in Sunday's second game after tossing 1.1 innings, allowing one run, and striking out two. Kyle Odenbach started the tilt, and allowed two runs on four hits in four frames. Max Weber (R-Sr., RHP, St. Paul, Minn.) allowed one run in two innings. Nate Grafsgaard (R-Sr., RHP, Devils Lake, N.D.) allowed no runs in 0.2 innings, while Joey Connelly (Jr., LHP, Eden Prairie, Minn.) allowed no runs in one inning.
Cameron Rosen suffered the loss for Stanislaus State, allowing two runs, in 1.2 innings.
The Golden Eagles were paced by Satrom, who was 2-of-4, with six RBIs, and three runs scored. Debilzen went 2-of-4, with an RBI, and a run scored. Dykhoff was 2-of-4, with two RBIs. Bushbaum finished 2-of-4, with one run scored. Kappes finished 1-of-2, with two runs scored.
The Warriors took a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the first. Perez hit an infield single to plate J.D. Madrigal. A Navarette single then drove in Solis for Stanislaus State.
The Golden Eagles cut the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the third as Dykhoff doubled to center field, scoring Debilzen.
Stanislaus State pushed their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth with a Madrigal double down the right field line to score Valdivia.
Minnesota Crookston cut into the deficit in the top of the seventh. Kappes scored on a Debilzen sacrifice fly to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Warriors. The Golden Eagles tied the game 3-3 with a Dykhoff single to plate Satrom.
Minnesota Crookston took the lead in the top of the eighth with a two-run shot over the left field fence by Satrom, plating Connor Bushbaum (R-Jr., OF, Saginaw, Minn.) to make it 5-3.
Stanislaus State made up a run in the bottom of the eighth with a Jacob Baker double to drive in Danny Murphy.
The Golden Eagles broke the game open in the top of the ninth with a grand slam from Satrom, his second home run of the game, scoring Kappes, Danny Wensloff (R-Sr., OF, Roseau, Minn.), and Aaron Wensloff, extending the lead to 9-4.
The Warriors put two runners on with one out in the bottom of the ninth as both Alex Solis, and Navarette, Jr., reached on walks. Connelly struck out Danny Murphy, and Tyler Van Dyk to preserve the 9-4 victory.
Minnesota Crookston opens NSIC play Friday, February 21 with a 4 pm. C.T., game against Wayne State College at the Runyon Field Sports Complex in Pueblo, Colo.
