Box Score SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team was defeated by the University of Sioux Falls Friday, February 14 at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. Minnesota Crookston was defeated 83-64.
The Golden Eagles fall to 9-16 (7-12 NSIC) with Friday's loss. Sioux Falls improved to 16-11 (12-8 NSIC). The Cougars have won three-straight games in the series.
Minnesota Crookston was lifted by Emma Miller (Jr., G, Albertville, Minn.) with 23 points, four rebounds, and five assists on 8-of-21 from the field. Miller has 1,551 career points. She set her most points in a single season with 555. Miller needs just 35 points to set the single-season scoring record, surpassing Jessica Forsline. She is just nine points from surpassing Katrina (Moenkedick) Nordick for third all-time in scoring at Minnesota Crookston. In addition, Miller moved into the Top 15 in NSIC scoring with 1,188 points. She now sits 12th all-time. Friday she surpassed Alexa Thielman of Minnesota Crookston, Erin Norling of Wayne State, Ali Wilkinson of Minnesota State, and Joey Batt of Minnesota State. She needs two points to surpass Isieoma Odor of Minnesota Crookston.
Hope Dudycha (R-So., G, Austin, Minn.) chipped in 12 points on 4-of-6 from the field. Nicole Hernandez notched 11 points, and one block. She needs five blocked shots to set the career blocks mark.
The Golden Eagles shot 24-of-62 for 38.7 percent from the field. The U of M Crookston went 7-of-23 for 30.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 9-of-12 for 75.0 percent from the line. Sioux Falls outrebounded Minnesota Crookston 36-28. The Golden Eagles had 14 turnovers Friday.
USF was guided by 30 points from Kami Wadsworth. Ayla Brown added a double-double of 14 points, and 10 assists. Sioux Falls shot 51.0 percent from the field, and 47.8 percent from behind the three-point line.
USF raced out to an 8-0 lead following a Megan Fannin triple. The Cougars extended their lead to 13-4 on another Fannin trey in the first quarter. The Golden Eagles pulled within 18-11 with 3:26 remaining in the first frame after a pair of Jenkins free throws. The U of M Crookston cut the deficit to 20-14 on a pair of Miller free throws. USF went into the quarter intermission with a 26-17 advantage.
USF widened the gap to 32-17 early in the second with an Ayla Brown triple. Minnesota Crookston trimmed the deficit to 33-25 on a Hope Dudycha jumper. Sioux Falls went into the locker room with a 42-30 following a Brecli Honner basket.
Minnesota Crookston opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run, as a Miller jumper pulled the Golden Eagles within 42-39 with 8:31 left in the stanza. A pair of Kami Wadsworth free throws put USF ahead 44-39. A Jenkins triple trimmed the deficit to 44-42 with 7:39 remaining in the quarter. The Cougars widened the gap to 50-44 on a pair of Wadsworth free throws. USF continued their response to Minnesota Crookston as they pushed their lead to 59-44 on a basket from Wadsworth. A Dudycha basket cut the Golden Eagle deficit to 68-51 going into the quarter sojourn.
The U of M Crookston used back-to-back Hernandez baskets to cut the deficit to 70-55 with 7:20 remaining in the tilt. Sioux Falls picked up the 83-64 win.
Minnesota Crookston remains on the road to face No. 17 Southwest Minnesota State Saturday, February 15 at 5:30 p.m.
