BISMARCK, N.D. - The University of Mary opened Saturday's tilt on a 17-3 run, and didn't look back in the 78-66 win over the University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team at McDowell Activity Center in Bismarck, N.D.

Minnesota Crookston dropped to 7-15 (5-11 NSIC) with the loss. They still have more NCAA Division II wins than last season, and are one shy of matching their 2023-24 NSIC mark. UMary improved to 12-8 (9-7 NSIC) with the win. The Marauders have won the last four games in the series.

The Golden Eagles were guided by Emma Miller (Jr., G, Albertville, Minn.) with 29 points on 8-of-16, 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Miller has 1,499 career points, sitting in fifth all-time. She needs 27 points to move past Isieoma Odor for fourth all-time in Golden Eagle history. Halle Winjum (Fr., G, Crookston, Minn.) tied a career-high previously set at Northern State with 10 points. Winjum had two triples in the game. Nicole Hernandez (R-Sr., F/C, Oak Creek, Wis.) had nine points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots. Hernandez needs just 10 blocked shots to surpass Isieoma Odor for the school record. Willow Thiel (Fr., F, Perham, Minn.) added seven points.

The Golden Eagles shot 19-of-56 from the field for 33.9 percent. They were 9-of-22 for 40.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 19-of-22 for 86.4 percent from the stripe. UMary outrebounded the U of M Crookston 51-34, including 23 offensive boards. Minnesota Crookston had 15 turnovers.

UMary was guided by 18 points from Bergan Kinnebrew. Emily Jaenke came off the bench for 15, while Moriku Hakim had nine points, and 11 boards.

The Marauders opened Saturday's tilt on a 17-3 run, following a Hakim bucket with 3:22 remaining in the first quarter. A Hakim put-back extended the UMary advantage to 20-5. A Emily Jaenke trey widened the gap to 25-9. UMary went into the quarter break ahead 27-11.

A Jaenke three-pointer gave the Marauders a 4-0 run to open the second quarter to push the lead to 31-11. UMary went into the break with a 40-18 advantage.

The Marauders opened the third quarter with a Kinnebrew triple to push the lead to 43-18. The Golden Eagles cut the deficit to 50-26 on a Miller trey with just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter. Minnesota Crookston trailed 60-35 at the conclusion of the third frame.

UMary opened the fourth quarter on a 5-0 run, as a Jaenke trey pushed the lead to 65-35. Hope Dudycha (R-So., G, Austin, Minn.) hit a triple to cut the deficit to 65-38. An old-fashioned three-point play from Hernandez cut the deficit to 67-43 with 6:28 remaining in the contest. The Golden Eagles were able to get the lead down to 69-48 under four minutes left, and a Miller triple cut it to 73-53. A Halle Winjum (Fr., G, Crookston, Minn.) trey cut the deficit to 73-56 with over two minutes left. The Golden Eagles were able to close the deficit to 78-66, but it would not be enough. Minnesota Crookston outscored UMary 31-18 in the fourth quarter.

Minnesota Crookston remains on the road to face Bemidji State University Tuesday, February 4 at 7:30 p.m., in Bemidji, Minn.
