Winona, Minn. – Winona State could do no wrong offensively on Saturday afternoon, hitting .385 in the match and sweeping Minnesota Crookston (15-25, 10-25, 16-25).
Minnesota Crookston falls to 6-20.
Set One
It would be a good start for the Golden Eagles, who would take a 5-2 lead early on with a pair of kills from
Madison Carsten (Jr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) and a block by
Emma Malek (Jr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.).
The set would be tied at eight, nine and ten, but Minnesota Crookston would take an 11-10 lead following a Warrior service error, but the Warriors would score 11 in a row to control the set and win by double-figures.
Set Two
The same start would not happen for the maroon and gold in the second set, as WSU would score nine straight points to open the set. The run would be halted by a duo block from
Sophia Haag (Fr., OH, Calgary, Alberta) and
Lexi Scharold (So., MH, Alexandria, Kent.).
Minnesota Crookston would get within six at 12-6, but that's as close they would get in the set two loss, 25-10.
Set Three
The third set would be tighter. Early in the set, it would be tied at one, two, three and five. Following the tie at five, WSU would score five straight, but the Golden Eagles would get back within four following a
Carizma Muth (R-So., OH, Randolph, Wis.) kill.
Later in the set, the Golden Eagles would get within five at 19-14, but the Warriors would pull away for the 25-16 win in the set and the match win.
Individual Stats
Muth led the way with eight kills on 29 total attacks, as well as finishing with eight digs. Carsten finished with seven kills, while
Megan Schoenfelder (Sr., MH, Zumbrota, Minn.) ended the match with a season high six kills.
What's Next
Minnesota Crookston will close out the 2025 season next weekend at home, starting with St. Cloud State on Friday night at 6 PM.
