Nationally-Ranked SCSU Controls Golden Eagles in Sweep

Crookston, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston played their second ranked opponent in three matches on Friday night at home against St. Cloud State. The Huskies proved why they are ranked so high, sweeping the Golden Eagles (11-25, 13-25, 16-25).

Minnesota Crookston falls to 6-21.

Set One
Abigail Ernster (Fr., OH, La Crescent, Minn.) would get the Golden Eagles on the board with a kill for a 1-0 lead.

The set would see the Huskies lead 5-2, but Emma Malek (Jr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) would collect a kill to cut the lead to two.

From that point, it would be all Huskies, who would win the opening set by 14.

Set Two
Set two would be all Huskies, at least to start. SCSU would take a 7-0 lead, but two straight points from the home team would make it 7-2.

Minnesota Crookston would do a nice job to chip away and would eventually cut the lead to just two at 10-8, following a kill from Carizma Muth (R-So., OH, Randolph, Wis.).

Later in the set, the Golden Eagles would cut the lead to 18-13 on a Madison Carsten (Jr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) kill.

That would be the last point for the Golden Eagles, who would fall in the set by 12.

Set Three
With their backs against the wall, the Golden Eagles would jump out to a nice 7-3 lead, following a big duo block from Malek and Megan Schoenfelder (Jr., MH, Zumbrota, Minn.).

SCSU would score five straight following that, but Muth would collect a kill as the Golden Eagles would regain a one point advantage.

The Huskies would continue the trend of the first two sets and they would pull away for the sweep of the Golden Eagles.

Individual Stats
Muth and Ernster each had nice nights, finishing with six kills apiece. Carsten finished with five kills and 10 digs, tied with Lauren Schnettler (R-Fr., DS, Browerville, Minn.) for the team lead in digs on the night.

What's Next
The Golden Eagles will wrap-up the season tomorrow afternoon for senior day, as they will honor their lone senior in Dana Melby (R-Sr., S, Gonvick, Minn.) following their match with the Minnesota State Mavericks.
