No. 9 Concordia-St. Paul Controls Match in Sweep of Golden Eagles

St. Paul, Minn. – Nationally-ranked Concordia-St. Paul controlled the match with the Golden Eagles on Friday night in NSIC volleyball action, sweeping the Golden Eagles (14-25, 20-25, 14-25).
 
Minnesota Crookston falls to 6-19.
 
Set One
CSP would take a 5-1 lead early on in the set, but the Golden Eagles would answer with a pair of points on a kill from Sophia Haag (Fr., OH, Calgary, Alberta) and a Dana Melby (R-Sr., S, Gonvick, Minn.) service ace.
 
Later on in the set, Lexi Scharold (So., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) would collect a kill to make it 10-7.
 
The Golden Bears would control the set from that point and win by 11.
 
Set Two
The Golden Eagles would take three leads early on in the set, including a 5-4 lead on a kill from Madison Carsten (Jr., OH, Wadena, Minn.).
 
Minnesota Crookston would continue to fight to stay in the match. The maroon and gold would trail 14-10, but would score two straight and cut the lead in half.
 
CSP would try to pull away and would eventually take a 23-16 lead, but two straight points from Carizma Muth (R-So., OH, Randolph, Wis.) would get the Golden Eagles back within five.
 
The Golden Eagles would fight hard but would lose by five.
 
Set Three
The third set would start out all Golden Bears, who would take a seven point lead early on.
 
Minnesota Crookston would have a stretch where they would score four of five points in the set, but it wouldn't be enough, as they would lose by 11.
 
Individual Stats
Carsten and Scharold led the way with six kills, while Melby and Ellery Ehresmann (Fr., S, Albany, Minn.) combined for 20 assists.
 
What's Next
The Golden Eagles will close out their road schedule at Winona State for a 2 PM first serve.
