WAYNE, Neb. - The University of Minnesota Crookston volleyball team fell in straight sets 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-9) to #6 Wayne State College Saturday, November 1 at Rice Auditorium in Wayne, Neb.
The Golden Eagles dropped to 6-18 (0-16 NSIC) with Saturday's loss to the Wildcats. Wayne State improved to 22-3 (15-1 NSIC) with the victory. Wayne State has won eight-straight matches dating back to an October 4 loss to Concordia University-St. Paul.
Minnesota Crookston hit -.022 for the match, with 17 kills, and 19 errors. Their best set was the second set where they hit .056. Wayne State hit .370 for the match with 43 kills, and nine attack errors. The Golden Eagles were propelled by Carizma Muth (R-Jr., OH/RS, Randolph, Wis.) with six kills. Madison Carsten (Jr., OH, Wadena, Minn.), and Emma Malek (Jr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) each finished with four kills. Ellery Ehresmann (Fr., S, Albany, Minn.) guided the system with nine assists, while Dana Melby (Sr., S, Gonvick, Minn.) added five.
Defensively, Lauren Schnettler (So., DS/Lib., Clarissa, Minn.) paced the squad with 15 digs. Melby, Muth, and Ehresmann each notched five digs.
Wayne State had a balanced offense Saturday. They were guided by Mattie Kamery with 11 kills. Channatee Robles finished with 10 kills, and eight digs. Chloe Hanel finished with six kills. Kamery hit an impressive .647 for the match. Lacey Kathold had five digs, and hit .833. Molly Romano led the Wildcats with 33 digs.
On the serve, Anna Borner led the team with four service aces. Defensively, Kathol had one solo block, and two block assists. The Wildcats finished with six blocks.
Wayne State seized the momentum in all three sets early. The Wildcats rattled off the first seven points in the first set. In set two, Wayne State notched a 16-0 run to set the momentum against the Golden Eagles. Minnesota Crookston had a 4-2 lead early after a Malek kill. The Golden Eagles continued to hold a 6-5 lead early, but Wayne State used a 5-0 run to help gain momentum.
