CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team fell 1-0 to the University of Jamestown Friday, October 3 at the Minnesota Crookston Soccer Field. The Jimmies scored the lone goal in the 61st minute when Nellie Brown hit a strike from distance off assists from Bella Perez, and Juliet Lopez.
Minnesota Crookston dropped to 1-6-1 (0-5 NSIC) with Friday's Homecoming loss. Jamestown improved to 1-6-0 (1-4 NSIC) with the victory. Friday's game marked the first game between the two as NSIC foes.
The Golden Eagles set the tone in the first half, outshooting Jamestown 6-1. The Jimmies turned the tide in the second half having more possession early in the second half. Minnesota Crookston outshot the Jimmies for the game 9-3. Jamestown had three corners, to two for the Golden Eagles.
Autumn Rabe (R-So., MF, Kewaskum, Wis.) paced the Golden Eagles with three shots, two on frame. Elise Lefers (So., F, Brookings, S.D.) added two shots. Sarah Burgum (Sr., F, Mandan, N.D.), and Tessa VanOverbeke (Jr., D, Hartford, S.D.) each tallied a shot on goal.
Brown led Jamestown with two shots on goal, scoring the lone goal.
In goal, Payton King (Fr., GK, Fairfield, Calif.) allowed one goal, with two saves. Skylar Lind put up a clean sheet in net for the Jimmies, with four saves.
Minnesota Crookston tried to set the tone early in the game with five shots in the first 30 minutes including shots on goal from Burgum, VanOverbeke, and Rabe.
Jamestown broke the scoreless tie in the 61st minute with Nellie Brown's goal. Minnesota Crookston had a sense of urgency soon after, as they put up their first shots of the second half in the following five minutes.
Minnesota Crookston had opportunities late, including a free kick and a corner kick in the final five minutes, but the Jimmies were able to hold on for a 1-0 victory.
The Golden Eagles return to action versus Northern State University Sunday, October 5 at 1 p.m.
