• THE MINNESOTA CROOKSTON soccer team comes into their final road weekend of the 2025 season with a 1-12-2 (0-11-1 NSIC) mark. The Golden Eagles have continued to show growth as a program, as they wrap up their first season in a new era under Head Coach
Danny Burstein. The Golden Eagles are averaging 0.27 goals per game, while allowing 1.67 goals per tilt to their foes. They are averaging 4.5 shots per game, and 16.9 to their foes.
• AGAINST BOTH SQUADS. Minnesota Crookston has a 3-10-1 mark against Minot State in their history. The Golden Eagles last defeated the Beavers 3-2 November 5, 2019 in Crookston. Their last win in Minot came with a 1-0 victory September 20, 2014. Minnesota Crookston is 2-15-4 all-time versus the Marauders. UMary has won the last five meetings. In 2018, the two sides tied 0-0 in Bismarck. Minnesota Crookston's last win in the series came September 20, 2015 with a 2-0 victory in Crookston. They have never picked up a win in Bismarck over the Marauders.
• DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE. The Golden Eagles have had a string of highly-competitive games, even against some of the top teams in the conference. In the last nine games Minnesota Crookston has six one-score games, a tie, and two 2-0 defeats by two of the top teams in the conference. Minnesota Crookston has allowed just 11 goals in nine games for an average of 1.22 goals per game. Minnesota Crookston allowed 14 goals in the first six games for an average of 2.33 goals per game. Overall, the Golden Eagles have allowed 25 goals for an average of 1.67 goals per game. They allowed 43 goals in 2024. They seem on-pace to allow far-fewer goals than they did in the 2024 slate, showing an improvement defensively.
• SHUTTING THEM DOWN. Minnesota Crookston has had strong play in net this season, helping to keep them in games.
Jordan Metz (So., GK, Lino Lakes, Minn.) has put together a string of games for the Golden Eagles. Metz has started six games this season and has a 1.69 goals against average. She has an .853 saves percentage. She has thre games with over 10 saves, notching 14 saves against Concordia-St. Paul, 13 versus Minnesota State, and 13 against Minnesota Duluth.
Payton King (Fr., GK, Fairfield, Calif.) has also had a strong season in goal, earning NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week honors earlier this season. King has a 1.33 goals against average, with 52 saves, and an .839 saves percentage. King has three shutouts as a freshman.
• AUTUMN IS HERE. The season of Autumn has arrived, as has
Autumn Rabe (R-So., MF/F, Kewaskum, Wis.), who scored her first-ever goal at Minnesota Crookston putting a cap off a strong free kick from
Riley Edemann (Fr., D, Santa Clarita, Calif.) against Augustana. Rabe has started seven games, with one goal, and four shots.
• E IS FOR ELISE.
Elise Lefers (So., F, Brookings, S.D.) scored a beautiful goal, the first of her career, to help the Golden Eagles to a 1-0 win over the Dragons. Lefers is second on the team with 11 shots, eight on frame. Lefers has mostly come off the bench this year, with three starts and 15 games played.
• FINCHTASTIC.
Julia Finch (Sr., D/MF, Woodbury, Minn.) scored her first career goal against Black Hills State. Finch is tied for the team goal-lead with Lefers, and Rabe. Finch has four shots, two on frame. Finch has been an important part of
Minnesota Crookston's lineup throughout her four years in the Maroon and Gold. She has started 14 games, and played in all 15.
• SETTING THE TONE. Minnesota Crookston captains
Tessa VanOverbeke (Jr., D/MF, Hartford, S.D.),
Emmah Burnes (Jr., MF, Tulare, Calif.), and
Sarah Burgum (Sr., F, Mandan, N.D.) all have vast amounts of experience and are trying to set the tone for a young Golden Eagle squad. VanOverbeke has started all 15 games, with 1,261 minutes played, three shots, and two shots on goal. Burnes has started all 15 games in the midfield, with four shots, two on frame. Burgum has played in 14 games, with 12 starts at forward. Burgum has a team-high 17 shots, with 12 on goal.
• SENIORS. Minnesota Crookston honored their three Seniors Finch, Burgum, and
Emma Dudycha (Sr., D/MF, Austin, Minn.) after Sunday's game against Minnesota State. The three young women have been crucial in establishing a new culture and starting the new era of Golden Eagle soccer.
• NEW ERA. Minnesota Crookston is in a new era of soccer with Head Coach
Danny Burstein. Burstein is almost done with his first season as head coach for the Golden Eagles. Burstein has been an experienced coach. He is coming off a year as an assistant coach at the University of Nevada. He previously spent three seasons at North Dakota. Burstein was the head men's soccer coach in 2020 for the University of Providence in Montana. He has also been an assistant at the University of Providence, and Adams State University. Burstein earned his first win as the Golden Eagle boss last weekend against the Dragons.
• MINOT STATE. Minot State is also in a new era with the hiring of former UND Head Coach Chris Logan. Logan and Burstein have ties, as Burstein worked as his assistant coach at North Dakota from 2021-23. The Beavers enter the week with a 6-5-4 (6-2-4 NSIC) mark. Minot State tied Sioux Falls 1-1 on Sunday. They had previously picked up wins over Jamestown (5-0) and Southwest Minnesota State (4-0). Minot State is tallying 1.87 goals per game, and allowing 1.53 to their foes. They are notching 10.8 shots per game, and allowing 13.9 to their opponents.
• WHAT'S YOUR MIOTTO. Anna Miotto, a sophomore from Switzerland, leads the Minot State attack. She has seven goals, and five assists on 25 shots. Miotto has started 14 games this season. She will be a crucial piece of the attack this weekend for the Beavers.
• STATS ON SABRINA. Sabrina Amezcua has started 15 games for Minot State. The native of Mexico, is tied for the team-lead with Miotto with seven goals. She also has two helpers. Amezcua has 43 shots this season for the Beavers.
• UMARY. The Marauders enter the weekend with a 7-5-3 (5-4-3 NSIC) record. UMary is notching 2.20 goals per game, and allowing 1.00 goal per tilt. They defeated Sioux Falls 3-2, and Southwest Minnesota State 4-0.
• OVER THE MOON ON OLIVIA. Olivia Gardner has had a phenomenal season for UMary with nine goals on 31 shots, and 16 shots on goal. Gardner will be the crucial figure in the attack for UMary this weekend.
• DISH ABOUT DINA. Dina Polanco has had a great season for the Marauders with eight goals, and two assists. Between Gardner and Polanco they have accounted for 17-of-33 goals. Polanco has started 11 games for UMary in 2025.
