Bemidji, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston volleyball won the first set on the road at Bemidji State on Saturday afternoon, but saw Bemidji State answer with three straight set wins for a four-set victory over Minnesota Crookston (25-22, 21-25, 19-25, 20-25).
Minnesota Crookston falls to 6-13 (0-11 NSIC).
Set One
Minnesota Crookston would jump out to a quick 5-3 start, following a kill from
Carizma Muth (R-So., OH, Randolph, Wis.).
Madison Carsten (Jr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) would help the Golden Eagles get out to a 12-8 lead with a pair of kills.
BSU would actually take a three point lead at 17-14, but
Lexi Scharold (So., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) and Muth would team up for a block and a tie at 18.
The Golden Eagles would lead 23-20, but see the Beavers score the next two, but Minnesota Crookston would answer with two of their own for the set one win by three.
Set Two
In set two, BSU would jump out to an 8-5 lead early on, but the Golden Eagles would score five straight and take a 10-8 lead with the help of a pair of freshmen in
Ellery Ehresmann (Fr., S, Albany, Minn.) and
Abigail Ernster (Fr., OH, La Crescent, Minn.).
Throughout the set, the maroon and gold would lead by three, on three different occasions, but the Beavers would score five in a row for an 18-16 lead.
Minnesota Crookston would see Scharold collect a kill to tie the set at 20, but the Beavers would win the race to 25 with the four point win.
Set Three
Set three would start the way of the Beavers, who would score the first four points, but Minnesota Crookston would tie the set at seven.
From that point, it would be the Beavers who would take the lead and extend their lead to 19-13. Minnesota Crookston would get within three at 19-16 and then two at 21-19, but BSU would score the last four to go up in the match, 2-1.
Set Four
The Golden Eagles would move out to an outstanding set four start, taking a 3-0 lead with the help of a Carsten kill and Muth ace, but BSU would work their way back into the set.
Another Muth ace would give the Golden Eagles a 12-9 lead, but once again the Beavers would answer right back and tie the set up at 12.
The set would be tied four times in the set, but BSU would take a 20-17 lead. Muth and Ernster would cut the lead to one at 20-19, but BSU would answer with five straight points and the match win.
Individual Stats
Carsten and Muth led the way with 29 combined kills. Scharold finished with five kills and
Emma Malek (So., MH, Plainfield, Ill.) added four kills. Muth followed up her 21 dig performance against Minnesota Duluth with 19 this afternoon, which is second most in her career.
Kailee Waasdorp (Jr., DS, West Fargo, N.D.) finished with 13 digs, while Ehresmann led the way with 19 assists.

Minnesota Crookston will host MSU Moorhead on Tuesday at 6 PM as the start of a three-match homestand.
