Crookston, Minn. – MSUM used late runs in each of the three sets they needed to knock off Minnesota Crookston in straight sets (18-25, 23-25, 21-25).
Minnesota Crookston falls to 6-14 (0-12 NSIC).
Set One
Minnesota Crookston would get off to a fast start in a set that was tight a bunch of the way.
Carizma Muth (R-So., OH, Randolph, Wis.) would give the Golden Eagles a 6-5 lead with a kill, which would quickly evaporate as the Dragons would take a 9-6 lead.
Minnesota Crookston would tie the set at nine following a massive block from
Lexi Scharold (So., MH, Alexandria, Kent.) and
Madison Carsten (Jr., OH, Wadena, Minn.).
MSUM would lead by one at 16-15 and would go on a run to pull away and win the first set by seven.
Set Two
In an important second set, the Golden Eagles would get off to a fast start at 5-2, following a service ace from
Emma Malek (Jr., MH, Plainfield, Ill.).
MSUM would lead 10-9, but the Golden Eagles would get on a run with the help of
Lauren Schnettler (R-Fr., DS, Clarissa, Minn.), who would serve five straight points and give the Golden Eagles a 14-10 lead.
MSUM would answer back with a massive run and take a 20-17 lead and would eventually lead 21-18.
Malek would cap off a 4-0 run and make it 22-21, but the Dragons would make one more play down the stretch to win the match by a pair.
Set Three
Much like the previous two sets, the third set would be tight and go back and forth.
Midway through the set, the Golden Eagles would take a 12-11 lead, following a block by Malek.
MSUM would take the lead and would pull away from the maroon and gold and win the set by four.
Individual Stats
Carsten added another double-double to her total, giving her 11 on the season, which is a career high. Carsten finished with 11 kills and 12 digs. Malek had a nice night, finishing with seven kills, while Scharold added five kills.
Schnettler finished the match with a career high eight digs and two service aces.
Attacking errors were an issue in the match, as the Golden Eagles finished with 22 attacking errors with 14 of them in the first set.

Minnesota Crookston is back in action this weekend as they host nationally ranked Southwest Minnesota State on Friday night for a 6 PM first serve.
