• THE MINNESOTA CROOKSTON soccer team comes into the weekend with a 1-8-2 (0-7-1 NSIC) mark. The Golden Eagles have been playing good soccer of late, as they have been competitive in all of their last five games. Minnesota Crookston has lost four one-goal games, and had a tie in their last five tilts. Minnesota Crookston is looking to get on the winning side of things heading into tough games with a split weekend against Bemidji State, and Minnesota Duluth. The Golden Eagles go to Bemidji State for a 6 p.m. kickoff Friday, and a 1 p.m. meeting in Crookston Sunday.
• AGAINST BOTH SQUADS. Minnesota Crookston is 1-27-1 all-time versus Bemidji State, who has been one of the top programs in the NSIC under Head Coach Jim Stone. The Golden Eagles had one-goal deficit tilts with Bemidji State in 2015, 2013, 2012, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2003, 2000, and a tie in two overtimes 2-2 in 2001. Minnesota Crookston is 1-19-1 versus Minnesota Duluth. Their one win came October 30, 2015 in Duluth with a 2-1 result. They had one goal defeats at the hands of the Bulldogs in 2024, and 2017.
• METZ WITH THE MITS.
Jordan Metz (So., GK, Lino Lakes, Minn.) has stepped into goal in the last two games, and been strong for the Golden Eagles. Metz was the main starter as a freshman in 2024. She has a 2.00 goals against average in three games, with two starts. Metz has notched 27 saves, with an .844 saves percentage.
Payton King (Fr., GK, Fairfield, Calif.) has been the main starter this season with eight nods in goal. She has a 1.33 goals against average, with 52 saves, and an .839 saves percentage.
• AUTUMN IS HERE. The season of Autumn has arrived, as has
Autumn Rabe (R-So., MF/F, Kewaskum, Wis.), who scored her first-ever goal at Minnesota Crookston putting a cap off a strong free kick from
Riley Edemann (Fr., D, Santa Clarita, Calif.) against Augustana. Rabe has five starts with one goal on four shots, with three shots on goal.
• E IS FOR ELISE.
Elise Lefers (So., F, Brookings, S.D.) scored a beautiful goal, the first of her career, to help the Golden Eagles to a 1-0 win over the Dragons. Lefers has six shots, with five on frame. The sophomore has started three games, and played in all 11. She has one goal, on eight shots, and five shots on goal.
• FINCHTASTIC.
Julia Finch (Sr., D/MF, Woodbury, Minn.) scored her first career goal against Black Hills State. The goal was the first of her career. Finch is tied for the team goal-lead with Lefers, and Rabe. Finch has four shots, with two on frame. Finch has started 10 games.
• NEWCOMERS HELPING OUT. All three assists for the Golden Eagles this season have come from freshman.
Riley Edemann (Fr., D, Santa Clarita, Calif.) added the assist last week off a free kick to secure Rabe's goal. Lily Goehring (Fr., MF,
Hartford, S.D.), and
Payton King (Fr., GK, Fairfield, Calif.) also have helpers for the U of M Crookston in 2025.
• NEWCOMERS. Minnesota Crookston has several newcomers who have jumped in and made a positive impact through two games. In addition to
Phoenix DeBrusk (Fr., GK, Thunder Bay, Ontario) and King in goal, Edemann has started all nine games at center back, Goehring has started two games,
Aleisha Cortez started seven games,
Norah Lutz a transfer from Aquinas College has started seven games in the back line for the Golden Eagles.
• SETTING THE TONE. Minnesota Crookston captains
Tessa VanOverbeke (Jr., D/MF, Hartford, S.D.),
Emmah Burnes (Jr., MF, Tulare, Calif.), and
Sarah Burgum (Sr., F, Mandan, N.D.) all have vast amounts of experience and are trying to set the tone for a young Golden Eagle squad. VanOverbeke, and Burnes have each started all five games, VanOverbeke as an outside back, and Burnes as a defensive midfielder. Burgum has started three games, and has six shots, with four on goal during the 2025 slate.
• NEW ERA. Minnesota Crookston is in a new era of soccer with Head Coach
Danny Burstein. Burstein is five games into his time as head coach for the Golden Eagles. Burstein has been an experienced coach. He is coming off a year as an assistant coach at the University of Nevada. He previously spent three seasons at North Dakota. Burstein was the head men's soccer coach in 2020 for the University of Providence in Montana. He has also been an assistant at the University of Providence, and Adams State University. Burstein earned his first win as the Golden Eagle boss last weekend against the Dragons.
• SPLIT WEEKEND. The Golden Eagles are 0-4-1 at home, and 1-4-1 away from the friendly confines of the Minnesota Crookston Soccer Field. They are seeking their first win at home in 2025, and
Danny Burstein's first home win as the Golden Eagle boss.
• BEMIDJI STATE. Bemidji State has a 6-2-3 (4-1-3 NSIC) record. They are coming off a major 2-2 tie against #2 Minnesota state last Sunday. The Beavers are led by long-time Head Coach Jim Stone. They come in averaging 1.27 goals per game, while allowing 0.82 goals per tilt. Bemidji State has 11.5 shots per game, with 11.2 shots per game to their foes.
• POTENT ATTACKER. Katrina Barthelt has shown why she was NSIC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. The BSU attacker has seven goals, and three assists with a team-high 43 shots, and 22 shots on goal. The senior has 32 goals, and eight assists in four years as a Beaver.
• A PASS FROM ELLA. Ella Wade has a goal, and three assists this season. She will be a major facilitator for Bemidji State. Wade has four shots, and one shot on goal, but will work to get her teammates connected.
• MINNESOTA DULUTH. Minnesota Duluth enters the weekend with a 3-5-3 (2-4-2 NSIC) record. They are also coached by a long-time sideline leader with Greg Cane. UMD is seeking their first win since a 2-0 result over Southwest Minnesota State September 21. They are notching 1.27 goals per game, and allowing 1.64 goals per tilt to their foes. UMD is averaging 10.4 shots per game, and allowing 9.4 to their opponents.
• KAITLYN FINDING THE NET. Kaitlyn Beavers has a team-high four goals, and one assist. Beavers has 18 shots, with nine goals in 10 starts for Minnesota Duluth. Her best game came with two goals, and an assist versus Sioux Falls.
• EYES ON EISCHENS. Jessica Eischens comes into the weekend with two goals, and four assists. She is UMD's leader with 25 shots, and 13 shots on goal this season. She will be a key component of the Bulldog attack.
