Crookston, Minn. - The Golden Eagles were set for their first matchup of 2025 with the Lumberjacks in town. The Golden Eagles had Wyatt Olsonawski (Jr., G, Hallock, Minn.) in the net, he enters the weekend with a 6-1-0 record, a 1.95 goals against average, and a .922 save percentage. The Lumberjacks decided to go with Rylan Labrie who entered the game with an 8-5-0 record, a 4.01 goals against average, and a .890 save percentage.
The Golden Eagles were quick to hit the back of the net, as Zach Larson (Sr., D, Grand Forks, N.D.) blasted a shot from the point that was never seen by Labrie. Jackson Dodds (R-Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) and Alexander Bailey (R-Jr., D, Crosby, N.D.) picked up the assists. Almost two minutes later, Fox Dodds (R-Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) made it 2-0 with a goal from in close. Mason Romfo (Fr., F, Langdon, N.D.) and Anthony Foster (So., F, Warroad, Minn.) added assists. 45 seconds later, Zach Larson fired another one home for his second of the game, with Alexander Bailey and Logan Syrup (Sr., F, Park River, N.D.) having the helpers for the 3-0 lead. A minute and a half later, Kayden Cey cut the Golden Eagles lead to two. The next 15 minutes would have plenty of shots, with all of them being saved by the netminders.
The second period saw four more goals scored, with each team netting two. Kayden Cey scored his second of the game just under five minutes in, and would score his third just five minutes later to knot things up at three. Alexander Bailey scored the go ahead goal a minute and a half later, and Mason Romfo picked up the loan assist. The next five minutes were chippy, with plenty of post-whistle extracurriculars, before Fox Dodds would bury his second of the game following an unbelievable move in close, Anthony Foster and Mason Romfo would each add helpers. The second period came to a close with the Golden Eagles leading 5-3.
Two and a half minutes into the final 20, Anthony Foster scored to make it 6-3, he was assisted by Mason Romfo and Tyler Lorenz (Fr., D, Shakopee, Minn.) Mason Romfo scored the team's seventh goal of the game, with Anthony Foster and Fox Dodds tallying the assists. The Golden Eagles would win their first game of 2025 by a score of 7-3. They outshot the Lumberjacks 59-30.
The Golden Eagles will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. in Crosby, N.D. to finish out their season series with the Lumberjacks.
