BEMIDJI, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team fell 3-0 to Bemidji State University Friday, September 20 at Chet Anderson Stadium on the banks of Lake Bemidji in Bemidji, Minn. The Golden Eagles trailed the Beavers by just 1-0 in the first half, but gave up two second-half goals.
Minnesota Crookston dropped to 0-3-1 (0-1 NSIC) with Friday's loss. Bemidji State improved to 3-2. The Golden Eagles improved against the Beavers this season, as they fell 7-1 to Bemidji State in 2023.
The Golden Eagles had four shots, with one goal while Bemidji State had 26 shots, with 11 on frame. Sarah Burgum (Jr., F, Mandan, N.D.) had the lone shot on goal for Minnesota Crookston. Tyler Chernecki (Fr., F, Winnipeg, Manitoba), Andrea Cuenca Medina (Fr., MF, St. Paul, Minn.), and Julia Finch (Jr., MF, Woodbury, Minn.) had shots for the Golden Eagles. Bemidji State looked to goals from Katrina Barthelt, Megan Ko, and Isabel Morales. Sylve Waters paced BSU with four shots. Kenzie Harer, and Madeline Davey each had three.
The Beavers broke through in the 12th minute in the first half when Barthelt scored off a Harer assist.
Bemidji State extended the advantage to 2-0 in the 53rd minute on a Ko goal off a Lauren Hodny helper. The Beavers iced the victory in the 89th minute with a Morales unassisted goal.
In goal, Jordan Metz (Fr., GK, Lino Lakes, Minn.) started for Minnesota Crookston and allowed three goals and made eight saves. Bemidji State's Sonia Alfieri had a clean sheet, with one save in 90 minutes.
Minnesota Crookston has their home opener against the University of Minnesota Duluth Sunday, September 22 at 1 p.m., at the Minnesota Crookston Soccer Field.
