Minnesota Crookston Tennis Adds Asli Oktay from Turkey

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team announced the signing of Asli Oktay (Istanbul, Turkey/Laurel Springs School). Oktay is the fourth signee for the Golden Eagles, joining Abril Manas Hernandez (Barcelona, Spain/Institut Baix Montseny), Abby VanPelt (Austin, Minn./Austin H.S.), and Katie VanPelt (Austin, Minn./Austin H.S.).

"We are excited to have Asli join the Golden Eagle tennis family next year," said Head Coach Josh Lunak. "She will be a very strong player for us next year with an extensive tennis background.  She is a great fit for our team first philosophy. She plans to major in Software Engineering"

Oktay continues to add to the international flare on the Golden Eagles roster, joining fellow signee Manas Hernandez. In addition, the Golden Eagles also have international returnees Nadia Cases Mundet (Barcelona, Spain), Daniela de Lucas Rivera (Madrid, Spain), Kavya Singh (Agra, India.), and Ariadna Solis Guals (Santpedor, Spain). In addition, the Golden Eagles are slated to return Hannah DeLong (Sacred Heart, Minn.), Kaydance Hinn (Coon Rapids, Minn.), and Blaike Zander (Bismarck, N.D.). 

Minnesota Crookston has had their best season in program history in 2024 with a 10-4 (5-4 NSIC) mark. The Golden Eagles qualified for their first-ever NSIC Tournament, which they will open this weekend. Minnesota Crookston has been led by their program's all-time wins leader Madeleine Schneider

The student-athlete listed as having signed a National Letter of Intent or Offer of Admission to play women's tennis at the University of Minnesota Crookston have been verified by the Minnesota Crookston compliance office once they sign the National Letter of Intent or once the student-athlete has accepted an Offer of Admission for Minnesota Crookston.

Asli Oktay (Istanbul, Turkey/Laurel Springs School)

Oktay is the daughter of Guven and Aynur Oktay. She plans to major in software engineering at Minnesota Crookston. Oktay has competed on the ITF junior circuit. She is 2-4 in J30 Girls and 0-2 in J100 Girls in 2024.
