ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team opened their trip to the Sunshine State with a 5-2 victory over Seton Hill University Wednesday, March 6 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
The Golden Eagles continue a historic start to the 2024 season, improving their mark to 6-2 (2-2 NSIC) with Wednesday's win. Seton Hill dropped to 2-4 with the loss.
Minnesota Crookston was able to take the doubles point by winning 2-of-3 matches. At the No. 1 slot, Ariadna Solis Guals (Fr., Santpedor, Spain) and Daniela de Lucas Rivera (Fr., Madrid, Spain) improved to 4-4 at the No. 1 slot with a 6-3 win over Carissa Shepard and Kasey Storkel. At the No. 3 spot, Kavya Singh (Jr., Agra, India) and Nadia Cases Mundet (Fr., Barcelona, Spain) earned a 6-1 victory over Sophia Solomon and Kaylee Kanuka to improve to 6-1 at the No. 3 pairing. At No. 2 doubles, Madeleine Schneider (Sr., Gartringen, Germany) and Blaike Zander (Jr., Bismarck, N.D.) fell narrowly 7-6 to Maria Pereda and Kendall McCluskey, dropping to 5-3.
In singles, Schneider continued her history season at the No. 1 singles slot. Schneider has already surpassed the all-time singles wins mark at the U of M Crookston. She added to her total, and improved to 7-1 this season, with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Shepard. At the No. 2 slot, De Lucas Rivera dominated Pereda, 6-1, 6-1, improving to 6-2. Cases Mundet moved to 6-2 with a 6-1, 6-0 commanding victory over Solomon. Singh improved to 4-3 with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over McCluskey at the No. 6 slot. Solis Guals and Zander both lost their singles matches, with Storkel and Kanuka earning victories.
Minnesota Crookston will face California University of Pennsylvania Thursday, March 7 6:30 p.m. C.T., at Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.
