Blaine, Minn. - As the Golden Eagles and Golden Gophers took the ice for their quarterfinal tilt, the two clubs would each turn to the goalie that won last weekend. For the Golden Gophers, that meant going back to Zach Walker. For the Golden Eagles it would be Adam Goody (Fr., G, Airdrie, Alberta) who has been on a roll.
Â
The first period did not have many goals, but it was far from slow. The two teams combined for a total of 19 shots on net and picked things right back up from the previous four games as they both were throwing hits. It was a physical brand of hockey that the Golden Eagles have thrived in this season, and that showed late in the first when Jackson Fuller (Jr., F, Bloomington, Minn.) wired home a shot on the breakaway with just a minute and 18 seconds remaining in the opening frame. His goal, the lone goal of the period, was assisted by Tyler Zahradka (Sr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.)
Â
The second period was a period to remember for these Golden Eagles. The two teams would go back and forth on shots, with the Golden Eagles outshooting the Golden Gophers 12 to 10. But the Golden Eagles also got it done where it mattered the most. With eight minutes remaining in the period, Fox Dodds (Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) would slip one by Walker on a rolling puck, as Tristan Morneault (Sr., F, Dieppe, New Brunswick) and Anthony Foster (Fr., F, Warroad, Minn.) would collect the assists. Just over three minutes later, Foster would net a goal of his own with a shot that went through Walker's five hole to give the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead. This time around, it was Morneault and Dodds with the assists.
Â
As the third period began, the Golden Eagles had one thing on their minds, finishing out the final 20 minutes just as strong as they had played in the first 40. The Golden Gophers had their strongest period of the game, knowing that it was the most important period of their season so far. The Golden Gophers would cut the Golden Eagles lead down to two with a goal from Jack Kimlinger. Goody would shut things down the rest of the way as he had 10 saves on 11 shots against. With 2:03 remaining in the game, Fox Dodds would get the puck to Anthony Foster who took the puck down the ice to finish the game with a short-handed empty net goal.Â
Â
The Golden Eagles got more amazing goaltending from Adam Goody as he had 19 saves on 20 shots. Anthony Foster and Fox Dodds each had three points, Tristan Morneault had two, Jackson Fuller and Tyler Zahradka had a point each.

The Golden Eagles are moving on to the next round of the WCCHA Tournament, as they will now faceoff against the Wisconsin Badgers tomorrow, Saturday the 10th, at 2 PM. The Badgers are the #1 seed in the tournament and are moving on following their 6-1 victory over the St. Cloud State Huskies. The Badgers have been incredible this year on defense and in net, and they showed it once again in their game today. This matchup will be a heavyweight tilt with two teams that play a similar style of hockey. Both the Golden Eagles and the Badgers thrive in physical games where they can also showcase their speed.
