SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston tennis team was defeated by No. 20 Augustana University Saturday, February 24 at Huether Family Match Pointe in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The Golden Eagles dropped to 5-2 (2-2 NSIC) with Saturday's loss. Augustana improved to 5-1 (3-0 NSIC) with the victory.
At No. 1 singles, Madeleine Schneider (Sr., Gartringen, Germany) suffered her first singles loss of the season, falling to 6-1, with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Florentia Hadjigeorgiou. At No. 2 singles, Daniela de Lucas Rivera (Fr., Madrid, Spain) fell to 5-2 with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Senem Ocal. At the No. 3 slot, Ariadna Solis Guals (Fr., Santpedor, Spain) was upended 6-2, 6-0 by Mia Garcia. At the No. 4 spot, Blaike Zander (Jr., Bismarck, N.D.) fell 6-1, 6-2 to Gabriella Jancikova. At the No. 5 slot, Nadia Cases Mundet (Fr., Barcelona, Spain) was defeated 6-0, 6-1 by Simone Karaouza. At the No. 6 spot, Kavya Singh (Jr., Agra, India) fell 6-2, 6-2 to Smilte Bakyte.
In doubles, the No. 1 pair of De Lucas Rivera and Solis Guals fell 6-0 to Hadjigeorgiou and Aleksandra Kistanova. At the No. 2 spot, Schneider and Zander were defeated 6-1 by Jancikova and Karaouza. At the No. 3 slot, Singh and Cases Mundet suffered their first loss of the season, 6-0, to Bakyte and Ocal.
Minnesota Crookston will take on Seton Hill University Wednesday, March 6 at 10:30 a.m. C.T. at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
