Topeka, Kan. – Minnesota Crookston softball fell in a low scoring affair to Fort Hays State, 2-1, on Friday afternoon to open up the Washburn Invite.

The Golden Eagles would go scoreless in the top of the first, but
Rayna French (Fr., C, La Salle, Manitoba) would continue the hot start to her career, singling to left field. French would stay at first base.
The Tigers would go scoreless in the bottom half of the inning, but they would score a pair of runs in the second inning on an RBI single and a fielder's choice.
The middle innings would see no offense as neither team could plate a run across.
The top of the sixth would start with
Paige Shwaluk (MIF, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba) reaching on an error and then stealing second. French would reach again on a walk and then
Whitnee Curry (Jr., MIF/OF, Lincoln, Neb.) would drive in Shwaluk with a single to right. The Golden Eagles wouldn't be able to plate across the tying run, leaving two runners on.
In the top of the seventh, the Golden Eagles would get the tying run to second on a
Reagan Emerick (R-Jr., MIF, Macomb, Ill.) double down the left field line, but she would not leave second.
In the loss, the Golden Eagles would collect three hits, one from French, one from Curry and one from Emerick. The Golden Eagles would leave six runners on base.
Thayda Houser (Sr., P, Seymour, Iowa) got the start and went 3.2 innings of work and gave up two runs on five hits, while striking out a pair.
Alexa Guilford (So., P, Crystal City, Manitoba) came in for relief of Houser and gave up two hits in 2.1 innings of work.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action for a twin bill tomorrow, starting with Emporia State at noon and Washburn University at 6 P.M.
