Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team fell 123-61 to No. 22 Minnesota State University Friday, February 23 at the Taylor Center in Mankato, Minn.
The Golden Eagles dropped to 9-18 (6-15 NSIC) with the road loss. Minnesota State improved to 22-5 (19-2 NSIC) with the victory. The Mavericks picked up the season sweep.
Minnesota Crookston was led by Nicole Hernandez (R-Jr., F/C, Oak Creek, Wis.) with 10 points on 5-of-7 from the field. Emma Miller (So., G, Albertville, Minn.) notched nine points. Miller needs just 16 points to become the 13th player in the program's NCAA Division II history to score 1,000 or more points. Miller added six boards. Janie Tormanen (So., F/C, Menahga, Minn.) finished with nine points. Olivia Walsh (Fr., F, Austin, Minn.) added eight points.
The Golden Eagles shot 26-of-54 from the field for 48.1 percent. They went 4-of-17 for 23.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 5-of-13 for 38.5 percent from the foul line. Minnesota Crookston was outrebounded, 44-29. The Mavericks finished with 18 offensive rebounds. The Golden Eagles had 20 assists to 38 turnovers.
Minnesota State had six players tally double-figure scoring. Destinee Bursch notched 25 points. Joey Batt added 18 points, seven assists, and eight steals. Natalie Bremer tallied 15 points and nine rebounds. Hannah Herzing chipped in 12 points. Mackenzie Schweim added 11 points, while Ava Stier had 11 points, and seven boards.
The Mavericks shot 50-of-88 for 56.8 percent from the field. Minnesota State shot 8-of-23 for 34.8 percent. They were 15-of-21 for 71.4 percent from the stripe. Minnesota State scored 47 points off turnovers.
The Golden Eagles are currently tied for 11th place with Augustana University, and Minot State University. The three teams are fighting for the last two spots in the NSIC Tournament. The Golden Eagles can get in with a win, regardless of what the other two teams do. They currently own the tiebreaker over Minot State University. A Minot State loss to the University of Sioux Falls also gets the Golden Eagles in, regardless of Minnesota Crookston's outcome.
