Grand Forks, N.D. – Minnesota Crookston Tennis cruised past Bemidji State, 6-1, in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles are 2-0 for the first time in program history and have won three straight matches against the Beavers.
Minnesota Crookston would get off to a fast start in the match by controlling the doubles.
Ariadna Solis Guals (Fr., Santpedor, Spain) and
Daniela de Lucas Rivera (Fr., Madrid, Spain) cruised to a 6-1 victory over Kate Taylor and Valesca Rodriguez of the Beavers.
Madeleine Schneider (Sr., Gartringen, Germany) and
Blaike Zander (Jr., Bismarck, N.D) would have a battle, but won 6-3, helping the Golden Eagles earn the doubles point.
Kavya Singh (Jr., Agra, India) and
Nadia Cases Mundet (Fr., Barcelona, Spain) propelled the Golden Eagles to a doubles sweep with a 6-2 win.
With a 1-0 lead, the Golden Eagles would need just three wins in the singles portion of the match to beat the Beavers.
The Golden Eagles would get the three wins and then some. In number one singles, Schneider would continue her dominance dating back to last year, defeating Taylor in three sets (7-6, 2-6 and 10-4). In second singles, de Lucas Rivera would defeat Rodriguez in straight sets, as would Solis Guals, defeating Emilia Sand, helping the Golden Eagles clinch the win. Cases Mundet and Singh would win their matches easily, losing just one set between the pair. Zander would fall in a thrilling match against Ana Ibanez Castro, losing in three sets.
