Minnesota Crookston Women's Basketball Opens Season with Loss to Nebraska Kearney

ABERDEEN, S.D. - The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team fell 99-53 to the University of Nebraska Kearney Friday, November 8 at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, S.D., in the 2024-25 season opener. The Lopers drained 13 treys at a 48.1 percent clip on their way to the win.

Minnesota Crookston opens the season with an 0-1 mark, while Nebraska Kearney moves to 1-0 with the victory at the NSIC/MIAA Crossover in Aberdeen, S.D. The Golden Eagles have played the Lopers six times since 2018. Nebraska Kearney leads the series 5-1.

The Golden Eagles shot 20-of-50 from the field for 40.0 percent. They went 5-of-20 for 25.0 percent from distance, and 8-of-11 for 72.7 percent from the charity stripe. Nebraska Kearney outrebounded Minnesota Crookston 40-12, including 12 offensive boards. The Golden Eagles finished with eight assists and 24 turnovers. 

Minnesota Crookston was paced by 17 points from two-time All-NSIC selection Emma Miller.(Jr., G, Albertville, Minn.) Miller went 7-of-16 from the field, and 1-of-4 from distance. Riley Jenkins (R-So., G/F, Galesburg, Ill.) chipped in 11 points, and six rebounds. Rayna Klejeski (So., F, Barnum, Minn.) finished with six points, while Taryn Frazer (Jr., G, Cass Lake, Minn.) added five.

Nebraska Kearney was lifted by 19 points from Samantha Moore on 7-of-9 from the field, and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. Jordan Sears added 19 points off the bench on 6-of-9 from the field, and 3-of-4 from distance. Kia Wilson chipped in 12 points. Meg Burns finished with 11 points. Jillian Aschoff finished with six points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. 

The Lopers got out to a 30-18 lead after the first quarter and didn't look back. They led 47-30 at the break. Minnesota Crookston played a strong third quarter, as they were slightly outscored 19-16. Nebraska Kearney rounded out the game, out-scoring the Golden Eagles 33-7 in the final stanza.

Minnesota Crookston will remain in Aberdeen, S.D., to take on Pittsburg State Saturday, November 9 at 2 p.m.
