CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team wrapped up their home slate with a 4-0 loss to No. 7 Minnesota State University Sunday, November 3 at the Minnesota Crookston Soccer Field. The Golden Eagles kept a clean sheet in the final 45 minutes after conceding four goals in the opening 45.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 1-15-2 (1-12-1 NSIC) with Sunday's result. Minnesota State improved to 12-1-5 (11-0-3 NSIC) with the victory.
Minnesota State finished with 19 shots, 11 on goal. Minnesota Crookston notched two shots, with one on frame. The Golden Eagles played a strong second half, keeping the Mavericks out of goal and generating more opportunities in the final third of the field.
The Golden Eagles were led by shots from Jacqueline Calderon (R-Sr., MF, Indio, Calif.), and Sarah Burgum (Jr., F, Mandan, N.D.). Minnesota State was paced by three shots, and two goals from Addison Clarey.
The Mavericks got on the scoreboard in the 10th minute when Clarey claimed the tally off an Avery Korsching helper. Minnesota Crookston widened the gap to 2-0 in the 22nd minute when Clarey scored again, this time with the assist from Kelsey Heller. In the 36th minute, Amara Smith scored with assists from Maille Mathis, and Jadyn Chee. The Mavericks added a fourth goal in the final seconds of the first half, with Reese Hilsenbeck finding the back of the net, off a helper from Elan Litt.
Emma Stempien (Sr., GK, Plymouth, Mich.) started Sunday's game, allowing four goals, with two saves. Jordan Metz (Fr., GK, Lino Lakes, Minn.) played the final 45 in net, picking up the clean sheet in the second half, with five saves.
Clare Longueville started for the Mavericks playing the first 45. She had a clean sheet in the first 45, while Lauren McAlpine kept the Golden Eagles out in the final 45, with one save.
Minnesota Crookston honored seven seniors prior to Sunday's tilt. The game was the final home tilt for seniors Jada VanOverbeke (D, Hartford, S.D.), Abby Fettinger (D, White Bear Lake, Minn.), Lanie Padelford (MF, Mahtomedi, Minn.), Calderon (Indio, Calif.), Stempien (Plymouth, Mich.), Greta Saylor (MF, New Brighton, Minn.), and Brooklyn Fischbach (F, South St. Paul, Minn.).
The Golden Eagles will conclude the 2024 season Thursday, November 7 at St. Cloud State University with a 2 p.m. kickoff.
