Golden Eagle Soccer Concludes 2024 Season with Loss at St. Cloud State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team fell 4-0 to St. Cloud State University Thursday, November 7 at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn. The Golden Eagles concluded the 2024 season Thursday.

Minnesota Crookston finishes the slate with a 1-15-2 (1-12-1 NSIC) record. The Golden Eagles had their best season in two years, with a victory and a pair of ties as they showed improvement on the field. St. Cloud State finishes the regular season with an 11-2-5 (8-1-5 NSIC) record. The Huskies finish third in the NSIC standings and move on to the NSIC Tournament.

St. Cloud State notched 27 shots, with 19 on frame. The Golden Eagles finished with three shots, none on frame. The Huskies had 15 corner kicks to zero for Minnesota Crookston. Elise Lefers (Fr., MF, Brookings, S.D.), Kali Yates (So., D, Hedgesville, W.V.), and Jacqueline Calderon (R-Sr., MF, Indio, Calif.) tallied a shot. The Huskies were propelled by five shots from Gabby Hofeld, four from Brooke Quam, and three from Zoey Fanter.

St. Cloud State got on the scoreboard in the seventh minute when Fanter scored on a Quam helper to make it 1-0. The Huskies extended their lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute when Delaney Weier scored off a Grace Olson assist. St. Cloud State went into the locker room with a 2-0 advantage.

The Huskies pushed their lead to 3-0 when Cady Compton scored, off a helper from Cofeld. St. Cloud State cemented their win 4-0 with a goal from Krysten Schuster off an assist from Abby Kavanagh. 

Jordan Metz (Fr., GK, Lino Lakes, Minn.) started her final game of her freshman season, allowing four goals, with 15 saves. Meriel Orham earned the clean sheet, allowing no goals, and putting away no saves in the game.

The game was the final of the careers for Golden Eagles Calderon, Brooklyn Fischbach (Sr., F, South St. Paul, Minn.), Emma Stempien (Sr., GK, Plymouth, Mich.), Lanie Padelford (Sr., D, Mahtomedi, Minn.), Greta Saylor (Sr., MF, New Brighton, Minn.), and Abby Fettinger (Sr., D, White Bear Lake, Minn.).
