Hockey | 11/16/2024 5:36:00 PM

Crookston, Minn. - The Golden Eagles and Royals are back in action for game two out of four on the season as the two teams will meet again in Devils Lake in mid-February. For the Golden Eagles, Adam Goody (So., G, Airdrie, Alberta) would be called into action as the starting goaltender. He enters the matchup with a 4-2-0 record, a 2.21 goals against average, and a .923 save percentage. The Royals would turn back to Logan Hendrickson, who had a great night last night stopping 47 of the 50 shots he faced.

Things would start early as Lake Region would secure their first lead of the weekend with a shot from the slot by Matt Besse that beat Goody high on his blocker side, and the Royals would go ahead 1-0 just three and a half minutes in. It was an intense and chippy first period following a hard fought game last night, both teams were throwing big hits and causing post-whistle scuffles. 13:44 into the first period, Aiden Morelli (Jr., F, Minot, N.D.) evened the score with a shot on a wide open net thanks to a great assist from Zach Larson (Sr., D, Grand Forks, N.D.) and Alexander Bailey (R-Jr., D, Crosby, N.D.), it was another tally for the Golden Eagles powerplay. Less than a minute later, Mason Romfo (Fr., F, Langdon, N.D.) fired a snapshot past the far side glove of Hendrickson, Romfo was assisted by Tyler Lorenz (Fr., F, Shakopee, Minn.) and Tristan Morneault (Sr., F, Dieppe, New Brunswick) and the Golden Eagles quickly led 2-1. The period would come to a close at 2-1.

The second period would keep the intensity at a high level, with both teams fighting for net front presence and throwing the body. The Royals would head to the powerplay just seven minutes in and Brady Wicklund would capitalize on it, tying the game at two apiece. Just three minutes later, Aiden Morelli would net his second goal of the game to regain the lead. Jackson Dodds (R-Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) and Ben Hines (So., F, Detroit Lakes, Minn.) would pick up the assists. The Golden Eagles would head back to the powerplay a few minutes later, and Zach Larson (Sr., D, Grand Forks, N.D.) would take advantage of it with his second goal of the season and the Golden Eagles fourth powerplay goal of the weekend. Alexander Bailey and Fox Dodds (R-Jr., F, Watford City, N.D.) would be credited with assists. The Golden Eagles would carry their 4-2 lead into the final 20 minutes of game time.

Mason Romfo scored his second goal of the game just 14 seconds into the third period to make it 5-2, Anthony Foster (So., F, Warroad, Minn.) and Tyler Lorenz would pickup the assists. Just five minutes later, Tyler Kleinjan would bring the score within two again as he found the back of the net on a sneaky shot. The third period was a penalty free affair, but it did not lack in hits or post whistle scrums. With just 1:05 left in the game, Zach Larson wired home his second goal of the game, with Anthony Foster and Mason Romfo adding on assists. The Golden Eagles would close this game out with a 6-3 win.

The Golden Eagles point leaders for this afternoon's matchup were: Mason Romfo with two goals and one assist for three points, Zach Larson with two goals and one assist for three points, Aiden Morelli with two goals, Tyler Lorenz with two assists, and Anthony Foster with two assists. Adam Goody secured his fifth win of the season, saving 17 of the 20 shots faced.
