Minnesota Crookston Falls 2-0 to Minot State

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team fell 2-0 to Minot State University Sunday, October 20 at the Minnesota Crookston Soccer Field. The Beavers iced the win with a penalty kick goal in the 67th minute from Anna Miotto, who fourth goal of the season.

The Golden Eagles dropped to 1-10-2 (1-7-1 NSIC) with Sunday's loss. Minnesota Crookston is in a three-way tie with Southwest Minnesota State University, and Minnesota State University Moorhead in 13th place. Minot State improved to 6-2-4 (4-2-3 NSIC). The Beavers have won the last five games in the series.

Minnesota Crookston finished with three shots, all on goal. Greta Saylor (Sr., MF, New Brighton, Minn.) notched two shots on goal, while Kali Yates (So., D, Hedgesville, W.V.) had a shot on goal. 

The Beavers notched 17 shots, with 12 on frame. Miotto led the way with four shots, three on frame. Manuela Pacheco had two shots on goal.

Minot State opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Manuela Pacheco scored to give the Beavers a 1-0 advantage. The Golden Eagles played a highly-contested match throughout the rest of the game after the Beavers broke down the defense early on. Minnesota Crookston was able to keep the game within arm's reach until the call in the second half resulting in a penalty kick from Miotto. Miotto put away the win for Minot State.

Jordan Metz (Fr., GK, Lino Lakes, Minn.) played a strong match, with many key saves. Metz allowed two goals in 76:06 with eight saves. Emma Stempien (Sr., GK, Plymouth, Mich.) played 13:54 with no goals allowed, and two saves.

Siriana Gudino earned the clean sheet for the Beavers, making three saves Sunday.

The Golden Eagles will travel to face Augustana University Friday, October 25 at 4 p.m., in Sioux Falls, S.D.
