MSU Moorhead Uses Big First Half to Defeat Golden Eagles in NSIC Women's Play

Moorhead, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston was looking to halt their five game losing streak on the road for a rare Tuesday game at MSU Moorhead.

MSUM used a huge run in the first quarter to give them a lead in which they would never relinquish, giving the Dragons a 75-52 victory.

Minnesota Crookston falls to 9-12 (6-9 NSIC) on the season

Minnesota Crookston would get off to a quick start, scoring on their first two possessions with baskets from Emma Miller (So., G, Albertville, Minn.) and Janie Tormanen (So., F, Menahga, Minn.).

The Golden Eagles would go on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a Riley Jenkins (R-Fr., G, Galesburg, Ill.) three and an Olivia Walsh (Fr., F, Austin, Minn.) layup.

The Dragons would take control of the first quarter with a 17-0 run, but the Golden Eagles would answer with four straight points from Tormanen and Hope Dudycha (R-Fr., G, Austin, Minn.).

Leading by 10 after the first ten minutes, MSUM would come out of the quarter break and take a 34-18 lead, but Jenkins would halt the quick scamper with a three from the left slot.

The Golden Eagles would eventually cut the 16 point lead in half with an Ainsley McLain (Fr., G, Grafton, N.D.) three. That three would be the first of McLain's Golden Eagle career.

From that point, MSUM would finish the quarter on a 16-4 run and take a 52-32 lead heading into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, the Golden Eagles would do a good job defensively, holding the Dragons to shoot just 18.2 percent from the floor, but MSUM outscored the Golden Eagles 11-10 in the quarter.

Minnesota Crookston would try to make a late push, but the Dragons would play solid defense in the second half and get the win.

Individually, the Golden Eagles were led by Miller, who finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Dudycha and Jenkins each finished with eight points, while Walsh added seven points.
