Bulldogs Use Large Second Quarter Run to Pull Away from Golden Eagles

Duluth, Minn. – Minnesota Duluth used a 19-0 run to end the first half to knock off the Golden Eagles on Friday night in Romano Gymnasium, 82-59.
 
The Golden Eagles have lost their fourth in a row and fall to 9-10 (6-7 NSIC).
 
The Bulldogs would jump out to a quick 6-0 start, scoring on three of their first four possessions.
 
The Golden Eagles would strike back with an Emma Miller (So., G, Albertville, Minn.) three ball to cut the lead in half at 6-3.
 
The Bulldogs would go on a brief 4-0 run, but the Golden Eagles would answer back with a 7-0 run, capped off by a Nicole Hernandez (R-Jr., C, Oak Creek, Wis.) three.
 
Miller would later give the Golden Eagles their first and only lead of the game with a three from the left slot to put the maroon and gold in front by a point.
 
The first quarter would end with an 18-16 Bulldog lead.
 
In the second quarter, the Golden Eagles would trail by 25-18, but a 6-0 run, spearheaded by Janie Tormanen (So., F, Menahga, Minn.), to cut the lead to 25-24.
 
From that point, the Bulldogs would use the three ball to go on a 19-0 run in the final four minutes and change the first half to head into the break with a 20 point advantage.
 
The third quarter would see the Bulldogs pull ahead by as many as 31, but Hope Dudycha (R-Fr., G, Austin, Minn.) would get a layup in the waning seconds to end the third quarter.
 
The Golden Eagles would show some fight in the fourth quarter and get to as close as 17 in the final stanza, but it would be too late for the Golden Eagles in the 24 point defeat.
 
Miller and Tormanen led the way for the Golden Eagles with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Miller also added nine rebounds and three assists. Natalie Mikrot (So., G, Willow River, Minn.) finished with nine points, while Dudycha finished with five points. Hernandez had a solid game as well, scoring five points and adding 12 rebounds, the third time she has done that this season.
 
What's Next
The Golden Eag;es will look to halt the slide tomorrow as they head to the Capital of Minnesota to take on the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears. Tip-off is set for 3:30 P.M., from the Gangelhoff Center.
