Crookston, Minn. -- No. 2 Minnesota State shot 61 percent en route to a 101-64 victory on Saturday afternoon over Minnesota Crookston.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 5-11, while Minnesota State stays unbeaten at 16-0.
Jordan Mitchell (R-Jr., C, Columbus, Ohio) would start where he left off on Friday night, giving the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead on their second possession of the game.
Minnesota State would extend their lead in the first half to 15-6, but the Golden Eagles would go on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from
Blaize Sagna (Jr., G, London, England) and a three from
Ben Hoverson (Jr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.).
MSU would once again stretch their lead, this time to double-digits, but a pair of makes from deep from Sagna and Hoverson would cut the Golden Eagle deficit to just seven at 32-25.
From that point on, the Mavs would go on a 16-0 run to take a 48-25 lead, which would be halted by a
Reid Grant three from straightway to head into halftime break with a 48-28 Maverick lead.
MSU would start out the halftime by stretching their lead to 64-28, but
Mario Adams (Fr., F, Rosemount, Minn.) would finish a tough layup to make it 64-40.
Minnesota Crookston would try to chip away, but the Mavericks proved to have too much firepower and finished off the Golden Eagles to stay undefeated.
Sagna ended the game with a team-high 17 points on 5-16 shooting from the field. Mitchell added nine points and seven rebounds, while
Peter Fuchs, Jr., (R-Fr., G, Wausau, Wis.) finished with seven points.
Isaiah Bundy-Smith (R-Fr., F, Rugby, N.D.) finished with a season-high six points.
The Golden Eagles shot 36.1 percent from the field and were 8-23 from long range.
