Crookston, Minn. – The University of Sioux Falls went on a late first half surge to take a 41-29 lead at the half and they would take control of the game for a 74-47 win over Minnesota Crookston on Friday night.
Minnesota Crookston falls to 5-12 (2-9 NSIC).
USF would strike first for a 2-0 lead, but
Aguek Deng (R-Jr., F, Des Moines, Iowa) would finish a tough layup to tie the game up at a pair.
Back-to-back trey's from
Blaize Sagna (Jr., G, London, England) and Deng would give the Golden Eagles an 8-5 lead.
Sagna would give the Golden Eagles a 15-14 lead with a tough right-handed finish. From that point, the Cougars would go on a 14-0 run to take control and a 28-15 lead.
Ben Hoverson (Jr., F, Grand Forks, N.D.) would halt the run with a left corner three. That three would start a 7-0 run to get the Golden Eagles back into it, with buckets from
Mario Adams (Fr., F, Rosemount, Minn.) and Sagna.
USF would go on a 13-4 run from that point to head into the halftime break with a 12 point lead.
After halftime, USF would hold the Golden Eagles to just 18 second half points and take the victory.
Minnesota Crookston was led by Sagna and his 16 points and eight rebounds. Hoverson added eight points off the bench, while
Peter Fuchs, Jr., (R-Fr., G, Wausau, Wis.) poured in seven points. Deng scored five points and added eight rebounds.
Minnesota Crookston shot 30.4 percent from the field and allowed 15 offensive rebounds by the Cougars.
