Odessa, Texas – Minnesota Crookston volleyball was looking to close out their trip to the great state of Texas with a win over Eastern New Mexico.
The Golden Eagles would play well and two of the sets would go longer than the set points of 25, but the Greyhounds would make one more play than the Golden Eagles, sweeping the maroon and gold (25-27, 19-25, 24-26).
The Golden Eagles fall to 2-6 on the season.
Set One
The Greyhounds would score the first two points of the match, but the Golden Eagles would regain a 5-3 lead, highlighted by a kill from
Megan Schoenfelder (Fr., MH, Zumbrota, Minn.) and a service ace and a kill from
Audrey Cariveau (So., OH, Kevil, Kent.).
The set would go back and forth, but the Golden Eagles would take an 11-8 lead on the back of a kill and another service ace from
Madison Carsten (Fr., OH, Wadena, Minn.).
The maroon and gold would eventually trail 16-15, but another run by the Golden Eagles would regain an 18-16 lead on the back of a pair of freshman, Carsten and Schoenfelder.
An
Emma Malek (Fr., RS/OH, Plainfield, Ill.) kill would give the Golden Eagles set point, but the Greyhounds would win the set, 27-25.
Set Two
Once again, the Golden Eagles would go on an early run, a 5-0 run, capped off by a
Mara Weisensel (Sr., MH, New Ulm, Minn.) kill. That would be one of a team-high 10 kills for the senior.
Later on in the set, the Golden Eagles would trail 13-12, but Carsten would give the Golden Eagles a lead at 14-13.
The Greyhounds would go on a 5-0 run of their own and that would propel them to a 25-19 win over the Golden Eagles in set two.
Set Three
The Golden Eagles would go on a pair of 3-0 runs early on in the set, including taking a 9-6 lead, as Carsten would collect back-to-back service aces for a 9-6 lead.
Another 3-0 run would see the Golden Eagles take a 15-12 lead, using the trio of Malek, Carsten and Schoendfelder.
The resilient Greyhounds would lead 17-15, but back-to-back points by the Golden Eagles would knot the game at 17.
ENMU would eventually have set point, but the Golden Eagles would force a pair of attack errors, tying the game at 24.
The Greyhounds would eventually score the next two points for the match.
Stats
Weisensel led the Golden Eagles with 10 kills on 24 total attacks, good for a .292 attacking percentage. Carsten finished with nine kills, while Malek added six. Cariveau and Schoenfelder added five. For the second straight match, Carsten added five service aces and 10 digs.
Kailee Waasdorp (Fr., DS, West Fargo, N.D.) continues her outstanding season, finishing the match with 19 digs.
Dana Melby (R-Fr., S, Gonvick, Minn.) finished with 29 digs and seven digs.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action next week to kick off NSIC play at Northern State on Friday.
