Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State won their eighth straight match, defeating Minnesota Crookston in straight sets (14-25, 11-25, 16-25).
Minnesota Crookston falls to 2-7 (0-1 NSIC).
Set One
Minnesota Crookston would jump out to an early 2-1 lead on a
Maya Jones (Fr., OH, New Braunfels, Texas) kill. Jones was back after not playing last weekend in her home state of Texas.
NSU would eventually lead 8-4, but the Golden Eagles would cut the lead in half on a kill from
Madison Carsten (Fr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) and
Dana Melby (R-Fr., S, Gonvick, Minn.).
An
Audrey Cariveau (So., OH, Kevil, Kent.) kill would cut the Wolves lead to 11-10, but NSU would score the next six points to pull away with the set for the 25-14 win.
Set Two
NSU would control the opening set early, leading 9-4. Minnesota Crookston would cut the lead to 9-7, highlighted by a Carsten kill and capped off by a
Mara Weisensel (Sr., MH, New Ulm, Minn.) kill.
From that point, it would be all Wolves, who would win the set by 14.
Set Three
Early on in the set, the Golden Eagles would double up the Wolves early on, but NSU would score the next three for a 5-4 lead.
The Golden Eagles would eventually trail 9-5, but three straight points, capped off by a Jones kill, would cut the lead to one at 9-8.
From that point, NSU would go on a large run and win the set and the match.
Individual Stats
Jones finished with nine kills in the match, tied for a career-high. Cariveau and Weisensel each finished with four kills in the match.
Melby finished with a double-double, 15 digs and 17 assists, her third of the season, while
Kailee Waasdorp (Fr., DS, West Fargo, N.D.) ended the night with 15 digs.
