Carsten has Career Day as Golden Eagles Tame the Mustangs

Odessa, Texas – Minnesota Crookston volleyball looked to finish day two at the Iceman Invitational in Odessa, Texas with a win over University of the Southwest from New Mexico.
 
Minnesota Crookston would cruise to the first set, which would propel them to a much needed sweep over the Mustangs.

The Golden Eagles improve to 2-5 on the season.
 
Set One
The Golden Eagles would be tied through the first four points, but Audrey Cariveau (So. OH, Kevil, Kent.) and Madison Carsten (Fr., OH, Wadena, Minn.) would collect back-to-back kills for a 4-2 lead.
 
The Golden Eagles would lead 7-5, but a 5-0 run would give the Golden Eagles a 12-5 lead, before a kill from Valoria Trevino cut the deficit in half.
 
The Golden Eagles would stay on the prowl and have a balanced offense through the first set. Carsten and Mara Weisensel (Sr., MH, New Ulm, Minn.) would collect four kills, while Cariveau finished with three first set kills.
 
Set Two
The maroon and gold would continue to play outstanding volleyball in the second set.
 
The Golden Eagles would take an early 3-0 lead, highlighted by yet another Carsten kill.
 
USW would cut the lead to 4-3, but two straight kills from Carsten and another from Weisensel would give the Golden Eagles a 7-3 lead.
 
The Mustangs would call a timeout trailing 18-6 and score the next point, but the Golden Eagles would pull away. More freshmen would join the act, as Megan Schoenfelder (Fr., MH/RS, Zumbrota, Minn.) and Emma Malek (Fr., RS/OH, Plainfield, Ill.) would collect a pair of kills in the run.
 
Schoenfelder would finish off the set with a kill, as the Golden Eagles would win by 15, 25-10.
 
The Golden Eagles would hit .303 through the first two sets.
 
Set Three
The Golden Eagles would continue to put the foot on the gas and control set three.
 
The Golden Eagles would trail 3-0, but a kill by Malek would put the Golden Eagles on the board. The maroon and gold would eventually tie the set at four, started by a Carsten kill.
 
The set would be tied at seven, but a 3-0 run by the Golden Eagles would put them in front for good.
 
A Kailee Waasdorp (Fr., DS, West Fargo, N.D.) service ace would give the Golden Eagles a 16-9 lead and the Golden Eagles would cruise from there for a 25-14 win and the sweep.
 
Stats
The Golden Eagles would hit a season-high .265 in the match, highlighted by Carsten, who finished with a career-high 12 kills and a .296 attacking percentage, also a career best. Weisensel finished with nine kills, while Malek and Cariveau each had five kills.
 
Dana Melby (R-Fr., S, Gonvick, Minn.) finished with 29 assists, while Waasdorp added 12 digs. Waasdorp and Malek each added five service aces as well.
 
What's Next
The Golden Eagles will cap off their trip to Texas tomorrow morning against Eastern New Mexico. First serve is set for 9 A.M.
