Bulldogs Score Five in the Second Stanza, after Scoreless First Half to Defeat Golden Eagles

DULUTH, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team fell 5-0 to the University of Minnesota Duluth Sunday, September 17 at James S. Malosky Stadium in Duluth, Minn. Minnesota Crookston kept a clean sheet for 45 minutes, but the Bulldogs scored five goals in the final 42 minutes of the game. 

The Golden Eagles dropped to 0-6 (0-2 NSIC) with Sunday's loss, while Minnesota Duluth improved to 2-3-1 (1-1-0 NSIC). 

Minnesota Crookston notched two shots, both on goal. The Bulldogs finished with 36 shots, 23 on goal. The Bulldogs had 15 corner kicks, compared to one for the Golden Eagles.

Ellerie Tarbox (R-So., MF, Carter Lake, Iowa), and Emmah Burnes (Fr., MF, Tulare, Calif.) accounted for shots for Minnesota Crookston. The Bulldogs looked to nine shots from Anna Tobias, and four from Rachel Boelke.
Abby Olsen (Sr., GK, Chisago City, Minn.) started in goal and played all 90 minutes for the Golden Eagles. She allowed five goals, and made 18 saves.

Jennifer Norris started for UMD and put up a clean sheet, with two saves.

The Bulldogs broke the scoreless tie in the 49th minute with a goal from Tobias, off assists from Morgan Eckerle, and Victoria Thorson. Minnesota Duluth extended their lead to 2-0 less than a minute later when Tobias scored, unassisted.

UMD widened the gap to 3-0 just 27 seconds later when Tobias made it a hat trick for the day.

Minnesota Duluth extended their lead to 4-0 in the 65th minute when Jessica Eischens scored off a helper from Miriam Marsan. UMD put the final tally on the board in the 81st minute with a Marsan goal.

The Golden Eagles return home to host the University of Sioux Falls Sunday, September 24 at 1 p.m. Former Golden Eagle Head Coach Kyle Halfpop is an assistant coach for the Cougars.
