Minnesota Crookston Falls on the Road to Dragons

Moorhead, Minn. – MSU Moorhead forced Minnesota Crookston into 25 attack errors on Saturday afternoon, leading to a sweep of the Golden Eagles in NSIC volleyball action (20-25, 13-25, 17-25).

Minnesota Crookston falls to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in the NSIC.

First Set
Early on, a Maya Jones (Fr., OH, New Braunfels, Texas) kill would tie the opening set up at three apiece. That would be the first of a career-high 11 kills from Jones.

MSUM would later score three in a row, but the run would once again be halted by a Jones kill.

MSUM would eventually take a 14-8 lead, but back-to-back kills from Jones would cut the lead to just four.

MSUM would continue to stretch their lead, but the maroon and gold would cut the lead to 23-20 on a setting error, but the Dragons would score the final two for the set one win.

Second Set
Early deficits would be the theme of the day for the Golden Eagles.

MSUM would lead early and eventually win the middle set by double-digits.

Third Set
Once again, the Dragons would lead big early, but the pesky Golden Eagles would show some fight.

The Golden Eagles would trail 16-2, but the Golden Eagles would get as close as 20-15, highlighted by a Dana Melby (R-Fr., S, Gonvick, Minn.) service ace.

That would be as close as the Golden Eagles would get, as they would fall in the third set, 25-17.

Individual Stats
Jones would have a career day, finishing with 11 kills on 25 total attacks. Mara Weisensel (Sr., MH, New Ulm, Minn.) and Audrey Cariveau (So., OH, Kevil, Kent.) each finished with four kills.

Melby finished the night with 24 assists and nine digs, while Kailee Waasdorp (Fr., DS, West Fargo, N.D.) finished with 12 digs.

What's Next
The Golden Eagles will finally have their home opener next weekend for two matches, starting with their annual 'Gold Out' game next Friday against Minot State. First serve is set for 6 P.M.
