Minnesota Crookston Soccer Falls 7-1 to Bemidji State Despite Strong First Half

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston soccer team fell 7-1 to Bemidji State University Friday, September 15 at the UMN Crookston Soccer Field. The Golden Eagles trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the first half with Brooklyn Fischbach's (Jr., F, South St. Paul, Minn.) second goal of the regular season. However, Bemidji State scored five goals in the second stanza to pick up the win.

Bemidji State improved to 3-0-2 with Friday's victory. Minnesota Crookston dropped to 0-5 with the loss. The Beavers have won 24-straight in the series. Minnesota Crookston scored their first goal in the series since September 3, 2016.

Fischbach led Minnesota Crookston with a goal. The converted goalkeeper found the back of the net after winning a ball off a Sarah Burgum (So., F, Mandan, N.D.) cross into the box. The Golden Eagles finished with 10 shots, five on goal. Their 10 shots marked the most for the Golden Eagles in 2023. Kedin Geremiah (Fr., F, Winnipeg, Manitoba) led the Golden Eagles with three shots. Fischbach and Marsia Green (Fr., MF/F, Waconia, Minn.) each had two.

The Beavers finished with 30 shots, 19 on goal. Bemidji State looked to six shots from Katrina Barthelt and Sylve Waters. Halle Peterson and Katrina Barthelt each had two goals for Bemidji State.

Barthelt scored in the fifth minute, off a Keely Yager assist. She added a second goal in the seven minute, off an Anna Breffle assist.

Minnesota Crookston trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the 27th minute when Fischbach scored off a Burgum helper.

In the second half, Bemidji State pushed the lead to 3-1 when Maria Stocke scored off a Barthelt assist in the 47th minute.

The Beavers extended their lead in the 55th minute when Peterson scored unassisted. Peterson scored a second goal in the 63rd minute, off a Maggie cade assist. 

Bemidji State pushed the lead to 6-1 in the 77th minute with a Miah Olson score. The Beavers put a final tally on the scoreboard when Ella Wade scored off a Bri Stocke assist.

The Golden Eagles return to the pitch Sunday, September 17 at 1 p.m., versus the University of Minnesota Duluth.
