LAHTI, Finland - Former University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball player Harrison Cleary will continue his professional basketball journey with Lahti Basketball, who plays in the Korisliiga, the highest tier of basketball in Finland.
Cleary, a three-time All-NSIC First Team pick, and a two-time All-American selection for Minnesota Crookston, who ended his career as the all-time leading scorer in NSIC and UMN Crookston history with 2,846 points in his career. The Oak Creek, Wis., native just finished his third season of professional basketball overseas.
Last season, Cleary played for SC Rist Wedel of ProB, the third-tier league in Germany. Cleary started all 23 games and averaged 23.9 points per game, shooting 55.1 percent on two-point field goals and 45.3 percent from beyond the arc. Cleary also notched 4.9 assists per game. His performance for SC Rist Wedel, earned him a place on Veolia Towers Hamburg, who competed in the Basketball Bundesliga in Germany. Cleary averaged 6.3 points per game in four games in the BBL for Veolia Towers Hamburg and 6.3 points per tilt in eight games during the EuroCup.
Prior to a breakthrough season in 2022-23, Cleary played two seasons in Spain. During the 2021-22 season, Cleary played seven games for CB Carbajosa of LEB Silver, averaging 15.1 points per game.
In his first season of professional basketball, Cleary played for AB Castello and CB Almansa of LEB Gold in Spain during the 2020-21 season. He played in four games for CB Almansa scoring two points, and scored 13 points in five games for AB Castello.
In addition to Cleary, Minnesota Crookston had five other former players compete in professional basketball during the 2022-23 season. Javier Nicolau completed his third season in Spain. He started 28 of 32 games for CB Clavijo Logrono of LEB Silver, averaging 10.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Nicolau played for Safir Fruits Alginet of LEB Silver in 2021-22, and CB Benicarlo of LEB Silver during the 2020-21 season.
George Blaj-Voinescu averaged 5.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game for SCSM CSU Craiova in Romanian Division A. Tyler West, Jr., scored 12.7 points and notched 10.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game for the Vancouver Volcanoes of The Basketball League (TBL). Ibu Jassey-Demba played for Sindri in Iceland and notched 9.7 points and 8.9 rebounds per tilt. Morgan Carter played 26 games during the 2022-23 season for the Derby Trailblazers of the NBL, notching 3.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per tilt.
