Crookston, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston men's basketball program announced the signing of Ben Hoverson (G, 6-6, 210, Grand Forks, N.D.). The guard from Grand Forks will join three signees in this year's class: twins Mario and Myles Adams and North Dakota transfer Reid Grant.
"We are very pleased to add Ben to the Golden Eagle Basketball family. He comes with college level experience as well as being from just down the road in Grand Forks," said head coach
Bryan Beamish.
"He fits perfectly within the 6 standards we are building our culture on. Ben gives us size and athleticism which will allow him to guard a variety of positions as well as a player that can stretch the floor on the offensive end."
Minnesota Crookston will be the third collegiate stop for Hoverson, having spent a year at Lake Region State in Devils Lake, N.D., and at Dakota State in Madison, S.D. Hoverson played high school basketball at Grand Forks Central.
The Golden Eagles are entering their second season under Beamish. UMN Crookston has a strong core returning for the 2023-24 season with five players who started more than half of Minnesota Crookston's contests returning. Junior guard
Blaize Sagna led the Golden Eagles in 2022-23 with 15.9 points per game.
Xzavier Jones returns after notching 13.4 points and 5.3 rebounds, while
Chandler Meeks notched 7.8 points per game as a freshman last season. Hoverson will join a dynamic backcourt that includes Meeks and Sagna.
The student-athletes listed as having signed a National Letter of Intent or Offer of Admission to play men's basketball at the University of Minnesota Crookston have been verified by the Minnesota Crookston compliance office once they sign the National Letter of Intent or once the student-athlete has accepted an Offer of Admission for Minnesota Crookston.
