SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team fell 10-1 to Augustana University Saturday, April 8 at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. UMN Crookston scored the first run of the game, but the Vikings countered with 10 unanswered to pick up the win.
Augustana notched the series sweep to improve to 25-13 (14-4 NSIC). Minnesota Crookston dropped to 20-14 (10-6 NSIC) with Saturday's loss. The Vikings have won the last seven games in the series.
Jake Osowski (R-Jr., RHP, East Grand Forks, Minn.) suffered his first loss of the season to fall to 5-1. Osowski allowed seven runs on 10 hits. He struck out six and had no walks.
Brody Sorenson (Jr., RHP, Grand Forks, N.D.) pitched a scoreless six innings, while
Conner Richardson (R-Sr., RHP, Grand Forks, N.D.) allowed two earned runs on four hits in two innings.
The win went to Caleb Kranz in relief. He allowed no runs in 1.2 innings, striking out one. Ashton Michek started and allowed one run on four hits in 4.1 innings. He struck out four and walked two.
The Golden Eagles had five hits in the game.
Caden Headlee (Jr., OF, Fargo, N.D.) went 1-of-3, with an RBI.
Sawyer Satrom (R-Fr., IF, Portland, N.D.) went 1-of-3.
Danny Wensloff (Jr., OF/C, Roseau, Minn.),
Josh Dykhoff (Fr., 1B/RHP, Wadena, Minn.), and
Jake Hjelle (R-Jr., OF/1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) all went 1-of-4.
Minnesota Crookston took the 1-0 lead in the first when Headlee singled, driving in
Mike Hallquist (Jr., 3B, Fargo, N.D.).
Augustana evened the score 1-1 in the bottom of the first when Jack Hines tripled, plating Trevor Winterstein.
The Vikings took the 3-1 advantage in the second when Joshua Koskie launched a two-run home run down the right field line, scoring Parker Mooney and himself.
Augustana pushed the lead to 6-1 with two runs in the fifth. Winterstein and Hines both had RBI singles in the stanza. Hines drove in two runs.
In the sixth stanza, Koskie walked with the bases loaded plating Drey Dirksen.
In the seventh, Dirksen put a two-run shot over the fence, scoring himself and Hines to make it 9-1. The final run crossed when Luke Ballweg scored on a Mooney groundout.
Augustana is in second place in the NSIC standings, while the Golden Eagles are in fourth place. Minnesota Crookston plays the third-place team St. Cloud State University Wednesday, April 12 at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. The game is slated to be in Crookston, Minn.
