SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team dropped a pair of road tilts to Augustana University Friday, April 7 at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Golden Eagles fell 7-1 in the first game and 12-1 in game two.
Minnesota Crookston dropped to 20-13 (10-5 NSIC) with Friday's losses. Augustana improved to 24-13 (13-4 NSIC) with the sweep. Augustana is in second place in the NSIC standings, while UMN Crookston is in third place in the NSIC standings.
Game One
Augustana picked up a 7-1 victory in the first game of the doubleheader. Minnesota Crookston was held to one run on seven hits in the tilt.
Jake Dykhoff (R-Sr., RHP, Wadena, Minn.) got the start and allowed six runs on six hits in five innings.
Jake Dykhoff struck out eight and walked two in the start.
Isaac Wensloff (Fr., RHP, Roseau, Minn.) pitched 0.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits.
Max Weber (So., RHP, St. Paul, Minn.) allowed no runs in 0.2 innings of relief.
Caleb Saari started and allowed no runs on one hit in two innings. Ryan Clementi got the win in relief, allowing no runs on six hits in 3.1 innings of work.
At the plate Minnesota Crookston was led by
Ben Goelz (Jr., OF, Maple Lake, Minn.) went 2-of-4.
Mike Hallquist (Jr., 3B, Fargo, N.D.) finished 1-of-3, with a run scored.
Sawyer Satrom (R-Fr., IF, Portland, N.D.) went 1-of-3, with an RBI.
Augustana jumped on the scoreboard with four runs in the second. Drey Dirksen doubled, allowing Tate Meiners to score on an error. A Joshua Koskie double to right center, plated Dirksen and Luke Ballweg to push the lead to 3-0. To cap off the inning, Koskie scored on a Nick Banowetz groundout to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Vikings pushed the lead to 6-0 with a two-run homerun from Ballweg, to score Ballweg and Dirksen.
UMN Crookston trimmed the deficit to 6-1 in the sixth when Satrom singled to right field, driving in Hallquist.
Augustana pushed their lead to 7-1 when Trevor Winterstein doubled to score Jason Axelberg. The Vikings held on for the 7-1 victory.
Game Two
The Vikings were lifted by eight runs in the fifth inning on their way to a 12-1 victory.
Alex Koep (Jr., LHP, Parkers Prairie, Minn.) suffered the loss after allowing five runs on three hits in four innings. Koep walked six and struck out three.
Jackson Schneider (R-Sr., RHP, Forest Lake, Minn.) pitched a scoreless third of an inning.
Seth Miller pitched the complete game, allowing just one run on three hits. Miller struck out eight and walked just two.
The score stayed at 0-0 until Augustana broke through in the fourth. A Dirksen triple scored Meiners to push the lead to 1-0.
In the fifth, the Vikings had a big inning with eight runs. Augustana was led by a two RBI double from Winterstein, plating Ballweg and Spencer Marenco. The Vikings also used a Ballweg double to score Meiners, and a Marenco double to plate Ballweg.
Minnesota Crookston trimmed the deficit to 9-1 when Hallquist crossed the dish on a
Caden Headlee (Jr., OF, Fargo, N.D.) sacrifice fly.
Augustana padded their lead in the sixth when Ballweg used a two RBI single, scoring Meiners and Banowetz. The final run scored when Maddux Beggs singled in Ragan Pinnow.
Goelz,
Josh Dykhoff (Fr., 1B/RHP, Wadena, Minn.), and
Danny Wensloff (Jr., OF/C, Roseau, Minn.) all went 1-of-3 at the plate.
