Bemidji, Minn. – Minnesota Crookston softball lost a pair of games to Highway-2 rivals Bemidji State on Thursday, 3-2 and 6-2.
The Golden Eagles fall to 16-31 (4-18 NSIC).
Game One
The Golden Eagles would get on the board early on in the opening game.
Paige Shwaluk (Jr., MIF, Portage la Prairie, Minn.) would double in
Gabriella Blomdahl (Sr., OF, Duluth, Minn.) for a one run lead.
The Golden Eagles would later add on a run in the sixth.
Maddie Shwaluk (Jr., OF, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba) singled through the left side, scoring
Reagan Emerick (R-So., MIF, Macomb, Ill.) for a 2-0 lead.
BSU would answer in the sixth inning with three runs of their own for a 3-2 lead. Minnesota Crookston would get a double from
Whitnee Curry (So., IF/OF, Lincoln, Neb.), but she would stay at second, as the Golden Eagles fell 3-2.
The Golden Eagles finished with eight hits in the game, including a pair from Blomdahl and Emerick. The Golden Eagles would leave eight runners on base.
Thayda Houser (Jr., P, Seymour, Iowa) would pitch five scoreless innings, giving up just four hits.
Charlotte Dombrowski (Fr., P/OF, Valparaiso, Ind.) gave up three runs on three hits and didn't register an out.
Game Two
In game two, the Golden Eagles would once again get off to a fast start.
Paige Shwaluk would once again get the Golden Eagles on the board with a single, scoring Emerick for a 1-0 lead.
Following that run, BSU would score six straight runs, including five in the second inning.
Trailing 6-1, the Golden Eagles would score a run on a wild pitch, scoring
Paige Shwaluk, but it would be too late, as the Golden Eagles would fall 6-2.
The Golden Eagles finished with 10 hits, led by three each from
Paige Shwaluk and
Alina Avalos (Sr., IF, Riverside, Calif.). Curry finished 2-4 on the night.
Evie Stuck (So., P/OF, Papillion, Neb.) fell to 1-6, giving up five runs, none of which were earned.
What's Next
The Golden Eagles will wrap-up their season this weekend. They will honor their three seniors on Saturday against Sioux Falls. First pitch is set for 1 P.M., from Crookston.
