Minnesota Crookston Baseball Powers Past Bemidji State 23-3 in Series Finale

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston baseball team powered past Bemidji State University 23-3. The Golden Eagles had 13 players notch hits in the victory over the Beavers.

Minnesota Crookston improved to 25-14 (15-6 NSIC) with the victory. The Golden Eagles have won the last 17 games in the series with Bemidji State and have five-straight victories under their belts. The Golden Eagles need just four wins to set the program record for wins, set during the 2019 season. UMN Crookston has achieved four seasons since 2016 with 25 or more wins. Bemidji State dropped to 2-34 (1-20 NSIC) with Monday's loss.

Jake Dykhoff (R-Sr., RHP, Wadena, Minn.) picked up his fifth of the season to move to 5-4. Dykhoff pitched five innings, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out five and walked two. Max Weber (So., RHP, St. Paul, Minn.) pitched one shutout inning, as did Conner Richardson (R-Sr., RHP, Grand Forks, N.D.).

Riley Bersaw suffered the loss after allowing six earned runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings. He struck out three and walked four.

The Golden Eagles finished with 18 hits in the win and utilized 21 different players in the win. Josh Dykhoff (Fr., RHP/1B, Wadena, Minn.) went 2-of-3, with two RBIs and two runs scored. Kobe Senn (So., IF, Fargo, N.D.) finished 2-of-2, with an RBI and two runs scored. Jake Hjelle (R-Jr., OF/1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) went 2-of-2, with three RBIs and a run scored. Ben Goelz (Jr., OF, Maple Lake, Minn.) went 2-of-3, with two runs scored and an RBI. Paxton Nelson (Sr., IF, Spicer, Minn.) went 1-of-2, with two RBIs and a run scored, while Mitch Goodwin (Jr., SS, Prior Lake, Minn.) was 2-of-3, with three RBIs and a run scored.

Minnesota Crookston scored three runs in the top of the first. Hjelle opened the scoring with a two RBI single, plating Josh Dykhoff, and Danny Wensloff (Jr., C/OF, Roseau, Minn.). Hallquist scored on an error by the catcher to cap off the inning.

The Golden Eagles added three more runs in the second. Josh Dykhoff's 10th home run of the season, scored him and Wensloff to push the advantage to 5-0. Hjelle then doubled in Hallquist to make it 6-0.

UMN Crookston added three more in the third. A Goodwin double plated Goelz to push the lead to 7-0. Goodwin scored on an error to extend the advantage to 8-0, while a Wensloff sacrifice fly plated Nunn.

Bemidji State picked up two runs in the third on a two-run blast from Jack Munson, scoring him and Isaiah Biehn.

The Golden Eagles added three more runs in the fourth. A Sawyer Satrom (R-Fr., IF, Portland, N.D.) triple scored Goelz, and Headlee. Minnesota Crookston capped off the inning with a Goodwin sacrifice fly, bringing home Satrom.

Minnesota Crookston scored four runs in the fifth. Headlee notched a bases-clearing double, scoring Hjelle, Hallquist, and Christian Norby (Jr., OF, Ashby, Minn.) to extend the lead to 15-2. A Goelz single scored Conner Fonger (Sr., OF, Superior, Wis.) to widen the gap to 16-2.

Bemidji State got their third run of the game in the fifth when Ty Karger scored on a Jackson Schaffer groundout.

Minnesota Crookston added four runs in the sixth. Senn put a double down the line to bring in Norby to put the score at 17-2. Paxton Nelson then delivered a two RBI single, plating Fonger, and Senn. To cap off the inning, Goodwin drove in Nelson with a double to push the score to 20-3.

The Golden Eagles capped off the win with three runs in the seventh. A Teddy Giefer (Jr., 1B, Courtland, Minn.) single, driving in Norby, and Connor Bushbaum (R-Fr., OF, Saginaw, Minn.) to extend the lead to 22-3. The final run came when Senn scored on a Zeke Hass (Sr., OF, Eaton, Colo.) sacrifice fly.

Minnesota Crookston hits the road for a two-game series Wednesday, April 19 at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., at the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D.
