Minnesota Crookston Softball Loses a Pair in Springfield, Mo.; Plays Evangel College Later Tonight

Springfield, Mo. – Minnesota Crookston would have a busy day on Saturday, playing three games, including one against No. 9 Central Oklahoma.

The Golden Eagles fell twice in the two afternoon games to No. 9 Central Oklahoma and Drury University, falling to 4-9 on the season.

Game One
Central Oklahoma would jump out to a quick start, scoring a run in both the second and third innings for a 2-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles would answer, scoring a run in the top of the fifth on a Haley Koch (So., C, Mondamin, Iowa) sacrifice fly, scoring Charlotte Dombrowski (Fr., P/OF, Valparaiso, Ind.), cutting the lead to 2-1.

The Bronchos would score five in the bottom of the fifth and one more in the bottom of the sixth to pull away for the seven run win.

The Golden Eagles had two hits, as Dombrowski and Brittney Mengel (So., OF, Sullivan, Wis.) had a hit in a pinch-hitting scenario.

Dombrowski also got the start in the circle and gave up four earned runs in 4.1 innings of work. Gracelynn Kelly (Fr., P, Black Hawk, S.D.) and Alexa Guilford (Fr., P, Crystal City, Manitoba) came in for relief of Dombrowski.

Game Two
The host Panthers would put some déjà vu on the Golden Eagles, by scoring the game's first two runs in both the bottom of the first and second inning.

Alina Avalos (Sr., IF, Riverside, Calif.) would do what she does best, driving in Paige Shwaluk (Jr., MIF, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba) to cut the lead in half at 2-1.

The Panthers would score a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth, which would be enough for the 4-1 victory.

The Golden Eagles finished with six hits in the game, with each coming off the bat of six different offensive hitters. Shwaluk and Avalos each had a hit, while Dombrowski went 1-3 in the game. Shaelyn Grant (Jr., OF/C, Grand Junction, Colo.), Kate Garcia (Fr., OF, Sylmar, Calif.) and Reagan Emerick (R-So., MIF, Macomb, Ill.) each went 1-3, as well.

Evie Stuck (So., P/OF, Papillion, Neb.) picked up the loss, falling to 1-3 on the season, but she was solid. The sophomore went 6.0 innings, giving up four runs, three of those were earned, while striking out three.

What's Next
