Jake Osowski Tosses Season-High 7.1 Innings to Help Golden Eagles Win Third Straight in Florida

3/11/2023 1:34:00 PM

Box Score Auburndale, Fla. – Once again, Minnesota Crookston's outstanding pitching propelled them to a 2-1 victory on Saturday morning.

This time, it was Jake Osowski (R-Jr., RHP, East Grand Forks, Minn.) who took center stage. Osowski pitched 7.1 innings, giving up just one earned run on four hits, while striking out seven Flyer hitters.

The Golden Eagles have now won three straight games in Florida, bringing the maroon and gold to 9-8 on the season.

The Golden Eagles would get off to a fast start in the game. Osowski would send down Lewis 1-2-3 to start the game.

In the bottom of the inning, Josh Dykhoff (Fr., 1B/P, Wadena, Minn.) would walk and then advance to second on a walk drawn by Mike Hallquist (Jr., 3B, Fargo, N.D.). Jake Hjelle (R-Jr., OF/1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.) would stay hot in the Florida sun, driving in Dykhoff for an early 1-0 lead.

That is how the game would stand until the top of the fourth, until Angelo Cantelo of Lewis would solve the puzzle briefly on Osowski, sending one over the left field fence to tie the game at one.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ben Goelz (Jr., OF, Maple Lake, Minn.) said let me take this lead right back. Goelz singled to open up the inning and would steal both second and third, then come around to score on one of the two Flyers errors.

That run would turn out to be enough, as Osowski's start and Jakob Wiire (Sr., RHP, Mims, Fla.) and Conner Richardson (R-Sr., RHP, Grand Forks, N.D.) would come in for relief and were outstanding in relief, combining to give up zero hits. Richardson picks up his first save of the season.

Offensively, Minnesota Crookston had four hits, led by a 2-3 day from Hjelle. Goelz and Hallquist were the other two Golden Eagles with a hit in the game.
