Box Score Winter Park, Fla. – After dropping three straight games in Florida, Minnesota Crookston baseball bounced back in a big way on Friday afternoon, sweeping a pair of games with a 13-0 win over Notre Dame College and a 5-2 win over Rollins College.
The Golden Eagles moved back to .500 at 8-8, with the sweep.
Game One vs Notre Dame College
Minnesota Crookston would jump out to a fast start. The maroon and gold would go up by a pair of runs on back-to-back home runs off the bat of
Josh Dykhoff (Fr., 1B/P, Wadena, Minn.) and
Mike Hallquist (Jr., 3B, Fargo, N.D.).
Minnesota Crookston would add on in the fifth. Hallquist would continue to stay hot, driving in
Mitch Goodwin (Jr., SS, Prior Lake, Minn.). The next batter, Hallquist would come around to score on a two-run shot from
Jake Hjelle (R-Jr., OF/1B, East Grand Forks, Minn.).
Another big inning for the Golden Eagles would come in the eighth and it would be the icing on the cake in the win. Hallquist would collect another two-RBI single, scoring
Matt Nunn (Sr., C, Edina, Minn.) and Goodwin.
Hjelle would cap off the eight run inning with a three-run home run, his second of the game and fourth of the year.
Alex Koep (Jr., LHP, Parkers Prairie, Minn.) was outstanding yet again for the Golden Eagles. Koep went seven innings, giving up three hits and no runs, while sitting down a season best 11 hitters. Koep lowered his ERA to .46, which ranks first among pitchers that have more than 15 innings on the season.
Hallquist and Hjelle both finished with three hits and combined for nine RBI.
Game Two vs Rollins
In game two against the Tars, offense would be a little harder to come by.
Rollins would jump out to a 1-0 run on a HBP with the bases loaded.
It wouldn't take long for the maroon and gold to answer. Small ball would be the answer to knot the game up, as
Sawyer Satrom (R-Fr., IF, Portland, N.D.) drove in a run on a fielder's choice.
The 1-1 tie would stand until the sixth inning.
Caden Headlee (Jr., OF, Fargo, N.D.) would triple to the gap in right center, scoring his hold junior college teammate, Hallquist. The Golden Eagles would add another run in the top of the sixth on a
Teddy Giefer (Jr., 1B, Courtland, Minn.) double, scoring Headlee.
In the eighth inning, the Golden Eagles would score another two runs. Satrom would single in Headlee for a three-run lead. Later in the inning, Hjelle would cap off his huge day with a double to left, scoring Hallquist for some more insurance.
Headlee led the way with a three-hit game, while also scoring two runs. Hallquist would have another two hit game, while also scoring two runs.
Jake Dykhoff (R-Sr., RHP, Wadena, Minn.) would follow Koep's lead and go seven innings. Dykhoff would give up just one run on two hits, while striking out eight.
Conner Richardson (R-Sr., RHP, Grand Forks, N.D.) came in for relief of Dykhoff and went two innings, giving up one hit, one run and striking out one.
